They seemed somewhat similar to me.
Black Lagoon and Speed Grapher are both similar shows. Both are action packed and suspensefull. Both have blood, gore, violence, death, and sexual things going on(more sexual things in "Speed Grapher") . Both can get really dark, and still punch in a great joke here and there, but not get silly. Both shows have gun fights (more in Black lagoon) that may ask you to suspend your belief a little bit (but this is good from time to time). Both also involve "different" types of fight scenes we are not used to seeing in anime. For example in "Speed Grapher" we get a guy who can make a camera kill people vs. a guy who's skin is like rubber. In "Black Lagoon" we get a speed boat vs. a helicopter!! Both shows seem "realistic" and put Hollywood to shame. As Revy from " Black Lagoon" says "Don't be stupid, this is way more entertaining than Hollywood's ever gonna be." or as Ginza from "Speed Grapher" says "Don't make me self defense you too!"
Both animes made me feel that I was watching a mature anime for adults (violence, death, mafia, drugs, sex, etc.)

Both shows contain a somewhat "dark" atmosphere with a lighter tone appearing now and then. Each has a "secret" organization that rules the city. Each also has a sort of "special power gene" that only certain humans can obtain. This gives the characters in both series new skills and abilities. With interesting plot lines, both of these will keep you glued to your chair.
In both shows, certain individuals have unique super-powers thanks to a recent phenomenon. In Darker than Black, you have factions of these people up against one another. In Speed Grapher, it's one man against everyone else, a more exciting setup IMO. Also, the characters in Speed Grapher are less opaque than those in Darker than Black where the mystery usually takes precedence over the story, leaving so much unexplained that the show gets tedious.
Similar theme, atmosphere, metaphysics governing supernatural powers, story progression and pacing. Both shows take place primarily in a "dark" city controlled by the underground where the main character fights against an omnipresent shadow-organization, filled with various goons who've derived powers based on their character flaws, in order to protect the freedom of a sheltered girl. The theme of science causing god complex is central to either story. The music used in both also strikes me as similar in style, composition and atmospheric use within the anime.

both deal with the underground world and people with superpowers
These both deal with a troubled hero who want to protect specific people not matter what the cost. Both animes are gritty and dark with no hope that people with power could ever be good. If you like the fact that a hero is going up against impossible odds to settle the score than either Gungrave or Speed Grapher is the anime for you.

Photography, mysteries, wealthy conspirators, the supernatural. Think of Speed Grapher as The Skull Man's dirtier, more hyperactive cousin.

Both have a kind of "conspiracy" theme and involve the power of shooting things but not with a gun.

Both by Gonzo, both filled with jaw-dropping action scenes, heart wrenching love stories, mild nudity, and characters with mind blowing powers that are truly amazing.

Both are neo-noir mystery anime dealing with erotic grotesque visuals, supernatural powers, and just give out the same vibe in general.

this series gave me the same sort of feeling as speed grapher.. it's hard to define.. but yea, it's very dark and deals with the underbelly of society [though ergo proxy is quite a bit more futuristic].. upheaval, good versus evil, that sort of thing.. the animation is also on par with this one.. definitely check it out.

Maybe it's just me, but "notebook that kills people" is kind of like "camera that explodes shit".
There's a slight difference: The theme of Death Note is justice/morality, while Speed Grapher is about corruption and vice.

Single man, out of his element, against mass organization that wants to take over the world.

Both series are at their hearts "shoot em up" gun shows, with lots of action. However both have some sci-fi elements (more in Burst Angel, which has mechas), and a few other strong elements as well. For example Burst Angel has a very "western" feel to it, while Speed Grapher has a more "supernatural" and "crime- drama" feeling to it. Speed Grapher is more sexual and a little more mature then Burst Angel (not that Burst Angel is for kids....it's not really). Both series are fun shows with great "Girls with Guns" action, and strong female characters. Speed Grapher is darker then Burst Angel. Both series are lots of fun, very gritty, and the animation and character desings are very similur. Both series are dubbed by FUNimation. Most importantly both Speed Grapher and Burst Angel were animated/created by Studio Gonzo.
If you like one, you will probally like the other!
