The best anime about the Meiji era. Only for 30 minutes author managed to convey all of the events, feelings and thoughts.
I think that before watching this anime it is better to watch Gintama because you become attached to the characters, so you compassionated them more. You worried for the Shinsengumi. Kondo-san surprised you, Hijikata-san was so amazing and you were very sad because of Okita's illness. But most importantly that you know that all of characters were real, they lived in Japan, they are real people)
I think that this anime is very interesting and cognitive.

Both titles are about the Shinsengumi in the same era of Japan's history. A handful of the characters are featured in both works, so it's interesting seeing the same historic people portrayed differently.
Both are historical portrayals of the Shinsengumi. While Peace Maker's historical value is somewhat ruined for the sake of entertainment, it still contains a few history lessons. Shiro no Kiseki, however, offers a very good insight into the life of Hijikata Toshizo, the demon vice commander of the Shinsengumi, and seems to be quite accurate. It doesn't only show us his Shinsengumi days, but also follows the rest of his life all the way up to his death. Both are a must see for anyone wanting to learn about the Shinsengumi. The same characters and settings also appear in both, so it's nice to see how people interpret them differently.

It's about Hijikata Toshizo, who makes an appearance in this, and how he leads the Shinsengumi, who are the enemies in TsuiokuHen.
