Both anime have similar have similar sports genre, pertaining to contact sports, except one more into boxing where the guy has to defend his belt, while the other is into all female wrestling where the idol has to defend her honor.

Both anime are about boxing (though in Kenichi it´s martial arts in general). Both main characters are nice and naive guys who start to train with the objective of learning what is to be “strong.” Both anime have some comedy in them. Ippo and Kenichi always get to fight stronger opponents, and they have to keep training desperately so they can win. And both training regimes are very extreme.
