The world these stories are set in are very similar. They're historical feeling in a fairy tale land that looks a lot like old Japan might. The difference is that strong female characters wield more power than may be historically accurate. This Second season of Saiunkoku Monogatari has a bit more of the "magic" in it than the first season which I think makes it a lot more like Juuni Kokuki - which is filled with elements of fantasy. I think if you like strong female characters who are not portrayed primarily as a object of sexuality, who don't spend all day talking about a guy but are also not immune to the idea of romance, you'll definitely like both these series.

As I have said in the first season, both are reverse harems. Main protogonist is dense towards romantic relaionships AND they don't bow down to the guys :D If you liked Saiunkoku Monogatari II, I think you'll like Ouran just as much, or even more! XD

Fushigi Yuugi and Saiunkoku monogatari has many things in common. Both animes are taken place in ancient Asian cultures. It takes place in an era of war where the emperors rage wars to keep their empires in toll. Both animes revolves around a romantic triangle. Character personas and design are also very similar.
If you are a fan of either anime, i'd strongly recommend and encourage you to watch the other as well!
