Ambitious groups of idols who start from nothing and then strive for the top. Both contain a mix of comedic and dramatic moments, as well as a cast of likable characters (for the most part). Key difference is that WUG tries to show a more realistic portrayal of the idol business, while Love Live doesn't.

Both are about a young idol group rising to stardom.

Kind of similar plot, only Wake Up, Girls! is set in a current time and there no sci-fi. AKB0048 has more drama, mystery, and sci-fi. Both feature a several girls auditioning for an idol group and their lives as they try to become idols.

It's about idols without big fanbase. They have really well written characters and songs!

Both deals with Idols (how they are formed, how they practice, what songs they come up with etc etc) only, Wake Up Girls is more realistic and they deal with really serious problems. The animation may not be on par with Love Live but its still worth watching because we get to know how idols really have it in the real world.

Both shows obviously focus on music and groups of girls trying to become top idols. Idoly pride focuses on the internal and emotional struggle of the characters as well as their pride that comes from being an idol. The same struggles are evident in Wake Up, Girls, watching as the characters struggle to come to terms with their various past. Wake Up, Girls also parodies and follows at the time current Japanese idol trends.

Although Natsuiro Kiseki is not entirely just focused on idol-theme, but both series gives a vibe of a story of friendship, as well as struggling and chasing your dreams or the things that make you happy. Both series show the element of rising after the fall, not giving up, realizations, and growing up.

Full Moon is about a girl faced with death, and all she wants to do before she dies is sing. Amazing songs, a sad anime for those who enjoy idol anime. :0

Both have the same type of character cast, friendship that develops from cero, talent that improves or talent that appears for the first time; hardships to overcome, and characters that will make it hard for them to reach their goals. These series will keep you excited with every episode, making you want more at the end of every part.

Wake Up, Girls! and 22/7 are both idol anime obviously, both have good songs and characters that are in their youth. Both shows showcases the development of the characters and their idol group. Both shows have a management/organization that is a big influence to the groups and the story entirely. WUG is more realistic story-wise as it has a focus on the real life idol industry while 22/7 has a mysterious vibe.

- Group of girls just starting out in their respective industries (Seiyuu and Idol) - Wholesome Cute Girls Doing Cute Things content without ecchi - Seiyuu for main group of girls are brand new to the industry or nearly brand new - Neither group's goal is to make it to the top of the industry; they just want to find success and be happy

Both depict up and coming idol groups finding their footing in the industry and working towards the end goal of putting on a concert and building up their fanbase. Similarities include: - New idol group training and improving their skills. - Networking for fans through TV, radio, brochures, etc. - One of the more experienced idol members having past connections to a major idol group, leading to rivalries later on.

Both are about group of girls working towards their goal - in Hanayamata it's dancing at yosakoi, in Wake Up, Girls! it's becoming an idol group. It has really similar feeling with making bonds, working hard and trying to change.

Although Wake Up, Girls is more about drama in the group, Locodol and WUG both concentrate on girls becoming an idol and working hard, pushing through their insecurities.

Shounen Hollywood is about a group of guys trying to make it as idols, and Wake Up Girls! is about a group of girls trying to make it as idols.

If you are looking for a music anime that isn't just happy and fluffy all the time but has a rather realistic ring to it, these shows might be for you. They aren't exactly similar in their overall topics, but in this aspect, they can be comepared. Wake Up, Girls is about a group of girls trying to make their way into the idol industry, realizing how harsh this industry actually is and therefor giving an insight in the japanese idol industry in a way not a lot of idol shows tend to do. It is still quite fluffy but it's more realistic than the average  read more

Both of these shows have a similar setup for the lead female where she leaves a prestigious group because of their group's ruthless ways and is determined to never participate in the activity again. But she end up returning to the activity with a startup team that's more about friendship than results. Of course, the major difference is that WUG is all about singing and being an idol, while GUP is all about action with girls battling with tanks.

Both shows have striking similarities. They revolve around a group of girls trying to become famous as an idol group. The cutesy style is also very similar.

Both animes are about idols who strive from scratch to become a worthy idol project. They participate in a variety of promo, in order to get fame. Animes are similar in that each of girls has any problems and fears that each of them is trying to overcome. Both anime have same atmosphere, but differ in that in the group Wake Up, Girls! real girls are singing, and in Zombieland Saga - zombie girls. In Zombieland Saga, of course, more fiction for humor, and in Wake Up, Girls! more real work of managers, labels and groups.

Both are consider on idol's life problems

Both are satirical, cynical, and make social commentary about the state of the industry (the idol industry, and the anime industry.) Both show a view of the idol or animation world as not all 'sunshine and roses'. Which is a unique perspective, in what is a usually escapist medium. Both seem to be light-hearted cute girl shows at first glance, but not is all as it seems... Girlish Number seems lighter than WUG so far, but who knows...
