It's about time somebody wrote something about this movie, and since I'm apparently the only one who actually enjoyed it, I guess it's up to me. XD
First, an introduction:
"Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: Pyramid of Light" is a movie spinoff of the anime "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" (more commonly known as simply "Yu-Gi-Oh!"), set between the series' third and fourth seasons ("Alcatraz Duel Tower" and "Waking the Dragons", respectively).
The Battle City tournament has just concluded, and Yugi and the Pharaoh have defeated Marik and won the three Egyptian God cards. Seto, of course, isn't happy about any of this. He still wants nothing more than to defeat his rival and win the Egyptian Gods for himself. The problem being, there's no way he's going to beat Yugi as long as he has said Gods in his deck. Seto turns to Pegasus, the one who originally created the God cards. After winning the "Pyramid of Light" and "Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon" cards from Pegasus, Seto challenges Yugi to one final rematch. During the duel, the activation of the Pyramid of Light card awakens the Egyptian Lord of the Dead, Anubis. It's up to Yugi, Jonouchi, Honda and Anzu to put a stop to Anubis' evil, while Seto and the Pharaoh duke it out for the title of King of Duelists.
Story
The story is... really poor, actually. It's a total hackjob - there's a lot of loose ends and plot holes, and things are generally just not explained well enough, or at all. There's continuity errors and big mistakes during the dueling. And the entire plot pretty much revolves around Anubis going "Rawr, I am an evil god. I do evil things. There's no way you will defeat me, muahahaha-- oh shit."
Annoying ranty thing about continuity errors:
One of Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's special effects is that it gains attack points for every dragon-type in the graveyard, yet she didn't get any points for Paladin of White Dragon (if this had been calculated right, Atem would have lost the duel). Also, the montage of clips at the beginning of the movie mainly shows scenes from Duelist Kingdom and Battle City, but it also shows Atem and the Egyptian Gods fighting Dartz and Leviathan (end of Waking the Dragons arc, episode 184). Since the movie is set directly after BC, this battle hasn't even happened yet. Lol, nice going. >_>
Art
Sucks, for the most part. The animation is some of the worst you will ever see, especially so considering this movie isn't that old. It's especially noticeable on Osiris - someone really slacked off there. The one good point here is the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. Takahashi designed her especially for this movie, and boy, does she look amazing. She's pretty much all that saved this movie when it comes to the art/animation department.
There are also a lot (read: F*CKING LOADS) of mistakes with the card editing. Warning, moar ranting ahead~!
Both the Japanese and English versions include a rather infamous error near the end -- when the Pharaoh's cards are blown out of his hand by Inferno Tempest, it can be clearly seen that he has two of the Sun Dragon Ra. Which, of course, he shouldn't. The most noticeable error is during the Pharaoh's final turn. The two cards in his hand are easily recognizable as Diffusion Wave Motion and Exchange, yet they are totally different cards when he plays them (Double Spell and... something else I don't remember off the top of my head). But they still have the same card art as when they were in his hand. It would be a different story if they were just some random cards in the back of his hand that never actually got played, but an error that big and glaringly obvious is just shameful.
Sound
The same awesomeness you'd expect from Yu-Gi-Oh. There's not much in the way of new and exciting music, stuff from the series is reused. But there's nothing wrong with that - it still sounds as epic as ever. And, naturally, the movie gets it's own unique closing theme, "Fire", which is a great song too.
Character
Can you spell fail? There's not much to say here, really. The old characters are as great as always, but the new guy... Anubis has no story to him at all. As already stated, the whole "I'M GOING TO DESTROY THE WORLD, MUAHAHAHAHA!!!11" thing just doesn't cut it for a villain nowdays.
Enjoyment
Personally, I love this movie, if only because of BESD and the fact that it's Yu-Gi-Oh. And of course, that they left Seto and Pegasus on a big empty island together and then whizzed off to a different scene. Yay, yaoi fanfiction opportunities. <3
Aaaaanyway. This movie is pretty much just a 90-minute commercial. As with the Capmon mini-series: Do not watch this unless you are a massive fan of Yu-Gi-Oh. Otherwise, you'll just be wasting a perfectly good hour and a half. read more

when i heard that a yu-gi-oh movie was coming to theaters, i was happy to the point of demanding to see it. upon going to see it as a young child, i was amazed by it but now that i had re watched it as an older teen, i find there are flaws in it i was too excited to notice. since there is only one other review about this, i'll pitch in to help out. the story line, though not all together linked to the original show, was okay. i liked where they were trying to go and everything but it was sorta pulled out of the blue. the art i thought was really good, i loved the design on my old favorite childhood characters. they looked like themselves but in a more defined updated look. the sound was great since i loved the used of their original voices. the music too was alright, not quite to the standards of the show but i still enjoyed it. as i said before the characters were amazing since they were all the original ones and i had missed them greatly from the show. the main antagonist was an interesting idea but i thought he was sorta pulled out of the blue as i said before. it did tie into the original "ancient egyptian" theme so i wasn't too unhappy. honestly, i wasn't expecting it to be aas great as i thought the show was but for a sort of side story, it wasn't too bad. there are some flaws in it but for a yu-gi-oh fan like myself, i was able to enjoy it read more
