SynopsisAD 3567. The human beings have lost their once civilization, and they are living on the desolated grounds. Although their lives are frightened by Gardener, a mysterious unmanned mobile weapon sent from the moon, strong boys and girls become Gardener hunters to earn daily bread. Furthermore, although the civilization was ruined, because of the high-tech maintenance free technologies, limited functions of cities are still working to support people's lives. Please note, that Giniro no Olynsis contains time travel, thus the plot makes barely any sense when you try explaining it, so, read the description or watch the show if you want to make sense of it yourself.
Gin'iro no Olynsis is a Gundam clone. That's pretty clear. The art style bears massive resemblance to the ever attractive Gundam SEED. Whilst the plot takes notable similarities to Gundam X. However, Gin'Iro no Olynsis tried to be original, but failed on a high note.
GnO mostly focused on a cliche romance between two completely uninteresting characters, Tokito and Tia.
The plot begins with, of course, an explanation of the bland, postapocalyptic world they live in. The earth is completely in shambles and civilization is back to point one (Except for their weapons, of course) The people who survived whatever disaster hit the earth are plagued by mechs (Supposedly unmanned) called Gardeners who came from the moon for no clear purpose. There are people who travel around what's left of the earth destroying these gardeners and selling their parts to make their way in life. Tokito, our main character, is part of one of these many salvaging groups. Let's just face the facts. They're just Vultures from Gundam X without a real name for themselves.
Our cast is what you would expect from a Gundam clone; a bunch of people on a traveling ship. They pass by a village, and through a course of events, Some braindead girl named Tia comes out of nowhere and believes Tokito to be her lost boyfriend "Koichi." The plot advances by her being more attracted to Tokito than the Koichi, who is currently lost to history.
SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT. (though if you've seen star wars, it's the same thing)
It later turns out that her boyfriend Koichi is actually Darth Va- The lord of the moon, A.K.A the "Consul" and he is trying to restore the earth's environment using the Gardeners, henceforth their name. He eventually comes down to earth to retrieve Tia, but due to her memory loss and the fact that he's fighting against her when she already chose the opposing side, she leans away from Koichi. Koichi is forced to leave her in the salvagers' hands due to a chain of events. The plot became so uninteresting afterwards, that I just stopped watching it.
My main turnoff was how terribly bland the characters were. You have Tokito, also known as Brunette Naruto. He's the typical do-gooder that makes for a terrible character. He lacks personality in every way (He thinks like a girl; Blames himself for every damn thing and never thinks with his balls for once) Tia is a bit like Stella from Gundam SEED Destiny. She's totally unnattractive, and is in fact, a bit annoying. She's absolutely brainless.
Now lets get to the good.
The art style, although stolen from Gundam SEED, was very well done, although the clothing choice was terrible. Its like they all wear the same outfit, except the "Mysterious Sexy Bitch" (I'm not shitting you. She actually addressed herself as that when she came into the plot.) who dresses in full black while being blonde.
The Music is pretty damn good. I personally love the opening theme. Though I notice it sounds very similar to a certain Gundam opening.
This is one of those anime that were better left short. It feels like the episodes last forever, yet they're the average 24 minutes you see in any anime.
I wouldn't recommend watching this unless you are completely out of options.

Gin-iro no Olynssiss has nothing to do with Sunrise, Bandai, or the Gundam franchise but at first glance, you'd think so. Character designs are very, very similar to Gundam Seed and the story bears great similarity to After War Gundam X: humanity salvaging scraps of the past on a wrecked earth, extraordinary mecha, accidental teenage pilot, romance, jealousy, a nasty satellite system on the moon, sacrificial characters, slightly uncertain ending . . . . . I think they even tossed in a little Blue Gender for good measure. Character designs and animation is a little lacking, but not bad. It starts off a little slow but ends up being a very satisfying 12 episodes if not a masterpiece. If you are a fan of the genre, it is worth the time. It's probably a 7.5 but I can't make the numbers do that. read more
