Oct 22, 20074 of 4 episodes seen 15 of 16 people found this review helpful The Utawarerumono DVD Specials take a look on the lighter side of the series, somewhere in the middle when the situation was much more peaceful. These four mini-episodes, each from 6 to 10 minutes long, are hilarious. I thought the first, third and fourth were slightly funnier than the second one, but the second one was still pretty funny.
It must be said that there is a need to watch the first special before the second, and the third before the fourth (which I cannot find a subbed versio...n of). Even so, the fourth special is not all to hard to follow even without subs. The video says it all.
The art is more or less the same as the original series, with some added humorous expressions of all varieties. The specials also try to get just about every main character into it; Karura, Kurou, all the bad guys, and Tusukuru (well of course, she's dead) do not necessarily appear. Karura will be briefly shown though.
Overall, I highly recommend watching these if you have passed the halfway point of the series or finished it. Watching these specials before watching the original series is something that should not be done, or you will be sitting and watching this thinking, "Who the heck are these people?" Basically, don't watch this until you have seen Touka (who plays a big part in Specials 3 and 4). Enjoy! read more

Apr 3, 20084 of 4 episodes seen 8 of 9 people found this review helpful Why did I give it all 10? I just LOL'd all the way. Totally awesome in my opinion.
I'm a big fan of Utawarerumono, so I was hoping these specials would be awesome. Thus I wasn't Disappointed.
There really isn't much of a story though all 4 episodes interlink with each other in one way or another. Though What I enjoyed most is that there wasn't any "Serious" episodes and it was all a laugh. Only bad point I can give it is that it was only 4 short 5-10 minut...e episodes =[.
The Animation was purely class! I've watched the BluRay versions of it and it is totally awesome. The design, specially on certain parts [Which I will not state since it will spoil it] is awesome, and clever in a unquie way.
Sound, Well...I've been a big fan of soundtracks and Utawarerumono is just another one added to my collection. I enjoyed it much, and recommend it to people. It definitly suits this anime.
Characters in this anime are just flawless. You have Hakuoro, the emperor who in these specials take's time from his work. Thus the hilariousness [If that's a word =p] starts as because he wants to get a snack but he's never done it before...and the episodes start. Other characters are awesome as well, Eruruu, Aruruu etc. The one too look out for in this would be Touka, she is the main attention in episodes 2-4, she makes these specials what they are =p.
Enjoyment TOTALLY 10/10! This is recommended if your a Utawarerumono fan, and if you can like I did, watch the BluRay versions as they will not disappoint. read more

Jun 12, 20084 of 4 episodes seen 5 of 7 people found this review helpful set during one of those rare times of peace these episodes are purely for entertainment and lend nothing to the general plot of the story. however... they are very entertaining and any fan of the series wll enjoy them greatly.
all of them are tied together in sequential order and so must be viewed in said order to fully understand the events taking place.
as these are special episodes no attempt is made to introduce any of the characters. that being said if you are readin...g this and havent seen/finished the anime...TURN BACK NOW! otherwise you will find yourself scratching your head and wondering who certain characters are.
