Kingdom 2nd Season

Both deal with main characters leading armys. Utawarerumono's main character is a leader who gains power over time and becomes a king. As for Kingdom Xin grows as a character climbing the ranks to becoming a general. 

Both series take place in the Edo period, Both have Historical events within the plot. The two main characters fight to become the strongest and also to protect the ones they care about Both Protagonists has a female partner who helps assist and teach them how to become stronger The stories contain some amazing fighting scenes and displays some awesome comedy segments. 

Both are similar but different at the same time, The Twelve Kingdoms contains Fantasy like creatures, where as Kingdom contains fantasy like strong humans. Twelve Kingdoms focuses mainly on the rulers and people than the actual conflicts, where as Kingdom does quite the opposite, but the genre mixes in and is quite enjoyable for both parties to watch, it'll make you feel refreshed after watching the entire series. 

Battle for power in ancient China. 

These anime are so similar it starts off a little different but starting from the second half of the first season, Kingdom is so much like sengoky basara. you got armies fighting to conquer the land in a feudal age. Only a hand full of fighters in every army matters and everyone else is a worthless peon. The fights and characters are way over the top with the peons constantly being blown away by the fighters that matter. Id say it kingdom is a little better than sengoku basara, since theres a little more strategy in their wars. 

Fervent, inspired main character gains life and battle experience. Ruthless battles of epic scale.
