Oh god here goes, I seriously hope no one I know in real life finds out I saw this show, let alone reviewed it.
Boku no Pico is the "Two girls one cup" of anime. It's gained some viral popularity mainly through its pure shock value for those not expecting it. It's also occasionally described as "the worst anime of all time" by fairly popular reviewers such as Arkada and HoldenReviews however they provided little information as to what it is actually about. As such I watched it with no context as to its actual content, just to see what everyone was on about.
To make this crystal clear to those who are not aware this is Shoutacon Hentai, meaning it is animated homosexual pedophilic pornography (for art purposes only according to the show :P). Around 60% of the run-time of the episode is purely sex scenes.
The relationship between the two characters is creepily believable and realistic. The older man seems lonely and in denial about his bisexuality, even going so far as to dress Pico up as a girl, he never acknowledges he feels any romantic attraction to him or that the relationship exists for anything other than his own sexual satisfaction. Pico on the other hand is clearly infatuated with him.
But perhaps the most disturbing thing about this show is the same reason I can't give it a 1 even though I have no interest in yaoi. This isn't some shitty dojinshi, the animation is of the same standard you'd expect from an average anime of its time. It's even complete with an opening and soundtrack. So this cannot have been cheap to produce and judging by the fact that multiple sequels were made it may also have been a financial success. What I'm getting at is that a lot of people were actually willing to PAY for this.
The show really isn't all that bad at achieving it's intended purpose but there are really only a couple of reasons to watch this, if you are genuinely entertained by shoutacon hentai. To troll your friends, or just to know what the hell everyone is going on about when they talk about this show.

On the surface of things, Boku No Pico is nothing more than a very well animated shota with lots of sex scenes. But it's what lies beneath, what goes unsaid that makes this a somewhat disturbing OVA, more so than the following two episodes that also feature Pico.
There is no romanticism in this OVA, which is odd, considering the content. Mokkun, a somewhat bland character, sees Pico and ends up having sex with the underaged boy. He brings Pico around slowly, taking him out for ice cream, giving him blowjobs in the car, then finally bringing him around to his apartment. What creeps me out is the realism involved here...they don't fall in love. There are no roses. Instead there's a guy who seems to have little or no social life or girlfriend obsessing over a pretty boy. To the point where he dresses the boy up as a girl and even compares him to one. Pico likes the attention and (after the initial shock) the sex. It brings to mind stories of teachers having sex with their young children that you see in the news from time to time. I watch this anime and think...this could happen, no, this has happened to people. Not all cases of pedophiles are brutal rapes. Mokkun is neither presented as a bad guy or a good guy. He is not madly in love with Pico nor does he treat him badly, nor is it clear if he is manipulating the boy or simply lonely and desperate.
Pico too is a mystery. He is staying with his grandfather, for the summer if I remember correctly. The man seems old and disinterested in Pico and more than happy to let a completely strange man take his grandson out for long periods of time. If we consider the ending, which takes place at night on the beach...where is the grandfather!?
Of course, I'm not trying to say this is anything but shota porn, no. Merely that it stands out to me because of its stark realism. Compared to other yaoi, and even to its own sequels (Pico to Chico and Pico x Coco) Boku no Pico stands out awkwardly. It's clear Pico loves Mokkun much more than Mokkun loves him and the ending scene where Pico turns his innocent blue eyes towards the audience (facing Mokkun) and says 'I love you' always haunted me.
There are no roses and flowers in this OVA, no love, no happy ending. Just a brief glimpse into the life of a man and his lover, who happens to be a boy. The series takes its time showing scenery and building up to the sex scenes, all the while playing the disturbing call of cicadas. Had there been better character development, more story and more purpose, this could have been quite the interesting anime.
Overall, enjoyable as shota, but with the slightest sense of something not right going on underneath the surface. I can't even go so far as to say it glorifies pedophilia or rape...just presents it. Boku no Pico is an anime that does not judge, merely shows. read more

Yes. I gave it a 10 overall. I'll get to that in a bit.
Where to begin with this... Now, since this is a bit, um, sensitive to review, I'll try to be, I don't know, open-minded or something. It horrified me. No doubt, I was shaking in fear the whole time watching this. Not only the thought itself is so disturbing, but added with the art and sound...Oh, sweet freakn Jesus.
Also, the characters (all, like, three of them) are never really developed at all. There's really no story, nope, they're too busy with the porn for that.
So why, WHY did I give it a 10? I couldn't. Stop. Watching. Even though I tried. So. Hard. I'm sorry that I can't explain it. But even though it scarred me for life, it was...good. Really good. Maybe that it's just the thought that the creators were like, "Yeah, we're doing this! We don't care what anyone thinks! Even if the police arrest us for being complete pedos, we're doin' it anyway!" Maybe the fact that it's so taboo is what makes it so hard to stop watching. Even though it's so painful to, you're interested.
Watch this, if you dare. Fair warning, afterwards you shall be immune to anything hentai throws at you. read more

There comes one time in a man's life where he questions love, life, and his own existence himself. That my friends, is the core of boku no pico. We start off with the riveting character pico, a young, fresh young lad, full of vigor and ummph. The art? Fantastic. Leonardi di vinci is rolling in his grave from the pure breathtaking artform that is this ova. The sound? this show is the beethoven of OVA'S, every second is of orgasmic splendor. Overall i can not think of one negative thing about this anime, except for the fact that it ended. we must petition for boku no pico 4, take to the streets. and start the revolution! read more

If there is an Anime trilogy equivalent to the original Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, it would have to be Boku no Pico.
The overall consistency and structure of the story is well written: each OVAs seem to take place a year after its predecessors and as time moved forward, Pico’s character developed one summer at a time. Each episode has its own deep and significant meaning. However, for the sake of keeping things brief: Pico’s tale of self discovery revolves around the urge of inserting various objects into his orifices in a desperate attempt of filling the empty void left in his life. Ultimately, it was resolved thanks to the warmth and comfort offered by other prepubescent boys Pico meets along his journey. Their genitals; symbolizing their hearts and desire to be close and inside one another helped Pico overcome his deep-seated fear of being left behind, which is something almost any audience can relate to.
As far as the art direction goes; although the use of pixels adds artistic flare, it would have been far more favorable without the censoring altogether.
One can also argue that its soundtrack rivals the musical scores of John Williams.
The Boku no Pico saga exceeds perfection in terms of Anime (as well as any other forms of media) and I would certainly buy it again on Blu-Ray. 11/10 read more

Boku No Pico is quite truly the pinnacle of Japanese Animation.
After watching quite a few drama and "deep" anime series, i thought it was quite experienced in the field of deep anime, but nothing could of prepared my for this.
The story follows our hero, Tamotsu and his un-flawed, pure relationship with the androgynous boy "Pico".
By the time i had finished the series, i was in tears, my mind was all over the place and i was truly doubting my own existence. The love in this series was so pure, it made me doubt if i had ever even felt love at all.
I doubt any anime i ever watch in my life will ever be able to compare.
Please, if you are feel like killing yourself or are just generally unhappy with your life, watch this anime. It's truly life changing.

I have tried to be as fair as possible when reviewing this anime. I have rated it lowly because of the lack of story and originality to the anime and although I personally did not enjoy it I have made some recommendations to animes of a similar genre which I think are more enjoyable to watch.
Story: There is no use in dressing this up as anything other than what it is, Boku no Pico is shota porn so if that's what you're into then this one is for you. There's no real story to it, there are a couple of very short scenes to string together the sex scenes but thats about it. If you're looking for something with substance this one is probably not for you & as a yaoi fan you might be happier with something like Sensitive Pornograph as there's more story in there to flesh out the sex scenes.
Art & Sound: There's nothing really wrong with these, it's been animated well so I wouldn't say anything against it on that front.
Character: It's too short to do any development, so the characters are fairly bland. There's no definitive personally traits to them, quite simply it's two little boys who 'experiment' with one another.
Overall enjoyment: Personally speaking, I am not a shota fan. I like yaoi but watching this made me feel dirty on the inside. There are things out there which are more disturbing than this, but because it had no real story to it, it just felt like a flagrant excuse for porn. What I would say is that if you're a yaoi fan who wants to see some simple sex scenes with a little story, then try Sensitive Pornograph instead. If you like younger boys but want something with more story than this has to offer, I'd suggest Enzai which I actually found quite enjoyable to watch. read more

Okay, before I start off this review, if you don't like shota, which is little boy yaoi, please, just don't watch this. But if your fine with it, this will be a pretty good anime for you.
Story:
There wasn't much of a plot, but the little-ness of an actual story was just amazing. I give it a 9.
Art:
10. The art was really detailed, and the shading was amazing. The characters were really cutely drawn.
Sound:
The music was good, and the voices were great too. 9.
Characters:
10. Pico was amazing, he is one of my favorite anime characters ever. Mokkun was pretty awesome too. I like Pico because he's cute, and really girly looking.
Overall:
10. I really enjoyed this anime, and I think you should watch it. Unless you hate yaoi or shota. Other then that, EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT! read more

Boku No Pico is a brilliant deconstruction of the romance genre and one of the great masterpieces of our time.
The love story between little androgynous boys Pico and "Mokkun" is absolutely innovative and heartwarming.
This series also explains complex themes such as gender identity and sexuality.
The art is on par with the greats and can be easily compared to the likes of Vincent Van Gogh.
Boku No Pico haven't changed anything on what I thought about anime and my "outlook on life as a whole", like some people state. It's just another Anime with yet another quite disturbing plot.
In closing, Boku No Pico is the greatest piece of entertainment I have ever enjoyed. I mean it's like on of-a-kind although I'm not ready to watch anything similar to this. By the way, I don't really like shota or Yaoi, I wonder how I managed to watch it all. read more

Oh lord, where do I start....?
Boku no Pico is about a little boy named Pico whom possesses the personality of a generic schoolgirl, the shapely ass of a newborn baby, and the fashion sense of a call girl. This is the part where you stop watching. It's semi-illegal in most North American countries so it's kind of hard to find, and DEFINITELY not worth torrenting.
I love shota, but this anime is the very definition of "unwatchable", and for those of you reading this do yourselves a favor and stay away from it.

**********************************************************
Story
**********************************************************
As others have stated, Boku no Pico is a shotacon hentai movie... Therefore, there's not really much of a plot to speak of outside of the basic premise. Tomatsu (who is mostly referred to as "Mokkun" by Pico) is on summer vacation when he meets Pico, an incredibly feminine little boy. Pico doesn't have any friends, so Tomatsu takes him out for ice cream. During this outing, they begin to their sexual relationship, which pretty much sums up the rest of the OVA.
It's pretty difficult to give any opinions on the plot when the vast majority of it is adult/shota yaoi. However, I felt that the relationship was incredibly difficult to believe... Tomatsu, in particular, was so bland, I had trouble believing that he was attracted to Pico at all. He didn't come across as gay or a pedophile, in my opinion. I know that it's a hentai movie, so the character's motives weren't the main focus, but I think it would have helped if there was a little more chemistry between them.
There is a bit of conflict toward the end, though, saying that it's a "bit" is an understatement. Pico asks Tomatsu what their relationship means to him, and Tomatsu was unable to answer. However, this was resolved without even a conversation between them, in favor to give us another sex scene in the last five minutes. Honestly, I thought that this last part was pretty unneeded, and it did nothing but make the OVA longer than it should have been.
**********************************************************
Art
**********************************************************
There's really not much you can say about the art style, as it was drawn in a pretty standard anime style. There was nothing particularly special about it. The character designs weren't anything special, either. Tomatsu looked like your typical anime character, and Pico looked more like a girl than a boy. (I did like how Pico looked when he cut his hair toward the end... He looked much cuter in boy clothes.) One thing that I did find odd about the art, though, was the depiction of semen; it appeared much more solid than it should have. I'm not sure if that's common in hentai or not, but I found it odd anyway.
**********************************************************
Sound
**********************************************************
As with the art, there's not much you can say about the sound. I felt that the voice acting was pretty boring... Pico's voice really annoyed me, and Tomatsu sounded as typical as he looked. The opening and ending songs were both the same, and they were both pretty dull. Not memorable in the slightest. I did find the sound effects to be incredibly strange, though... The sound for eating ice cream, kissing, and having sex were all the same. Again, this is probably a typical hentai problem, but I found them really weird and sort of gross to listen to.
**********************************************************
Character
**********************************************************
I've already touched upon the characters in the story, so I don't need to go into too much detail here. The characters, like the rest of this OVA were incredibly generic. You have Tomatsu, who is your stereotypical anime male in every way, shape, and form, and you have Pico, who is quite confusing to figure out. I say he's confusing because he doesn't seem to have a consistant personality... He's shy and "easily flustered" one minute, then somewhat outgoing the next, having no problems with asking "Mokkun" for ice cream then proceeding to lick it off his shirt in a seductive manner. He's equally as inconsistant during the sex, somtimes asking for more and sometimes begging Tomatsu to stop. Still, he's pretty streotypical, so his flactuating personality comes off as inconsistant than mysterious.
**********************************************************
Overall/Enjoyment
**********************************************************
I was not shocked or offended by Boku no Pico... In fact, my reaction was quite the opposite. I found the whole thing to be incredibly boring, with nothing interesting to provoke any reaction other than indifference. Everything that was done in Boku no Pico has been done before, and in much better ways. I honestly don't recommend it to anyone... It was just too dull for words. read more

Why do I do these things to myself? Why?
I read all of the reviews for this anime, and honestly, I was very skeptical about watching it. I've been meaning to get to it for a year or so, but I kept putting it off. Should have kept it that way. But nooo, I couldn't just stop there, because this thing called morbid curiosity rears its ugly head every single time. Graphic shotacon revolts me. That should have been enough to keep my away from this, but I wanted to see with my own eyes how bad it really was. Or, whether it was awful or not in the first place. That's just how I am.
Why, oh WHY did I watch this?
A minute into the theme song, I was already annoyed. One minute later, I had progressed to revolted, and by the time I was ten minutes into the video, I felt a near uncontrollable urge to TURN IT OFF. Sixteen minutes comes: random guy picks Pico up. Pico abruptly leaves with him immediately. And the grandfather...says absolutely nothing about it. AT ALL.
That was when I did turn it off. I've seen some really awful yaoi, but never before have I found myself unable to finish it. This is even more disturbing than Enzai. Honestly. That's pretty bad when it was about the main character getting raped every five minutes.
Unless you're into older men taking advantage of very young boys, stay as far away from this as possible. It is plain to see that there is no semblance of a story here at all. read more

I found that Boku no Pico was a yaoi hentai series, hm... a few hours before I actually watched it.
I'd have to say, I was completely surprised. It's not as bad as people make it out to be, it's just gay hentai. Plus, although it's kinda perverted with the underage Pico doing it with a man, it's just for entertainment.
I definitely recommend Boku no Pico to those who likes yaoi pairings with an extremely feminine, genderbender uke and, well... I wouldn't say 'masculine', just someone who isn't so feminine, seme.

((I reviewed this together with Pico to Chico and PicoXCocoXChico as well. This is the same review for all three.))
I think it’s rather cute in a way, but the fact it’s a little boy makes me feel a little dirty in a way. Now if we look at it from a way it not being Hentai, the artwork is astounding and really well done.
The colors are pretty and bright giving it a childish look. The characters are nicely done and their proportions aren’t all that stretched out.
I do have a small problem with the fact that Pico does not look like a little child much. He looks older then he should and much taller. Another little problem is that the boys look like girls a lot. Not just how they sometimes dress up as girls but even in guys clothing, they look like girls.
Voices are alright, and the sounds… sound believe able at least. I don’t want to get much into that area of the show thank you very much.
Now… going into story line… At least this one has more of a story line then most other shows and uses it instead of making it a fuck all. I keep seeing it as a coming of age story or a exploration of the body though what they do is a little more then I would actually wish for. I know kids who are like them, that want to explore their bodies and see other peoples. In fact, when I was that age, I would always want to see my mother’s body because I was interested in how it differed from my own. I feel that Pico was touched by a pedophile and that’s why he acts the way he does with the other children. He sees it as a way to make friends and not really fully about full love. Now I can’t say there is not love in it but You can figure that if he is that young, he would be curious. The same goes for the cross dressing part of it as well. Wanting to know what it would feel like to be a girl instead of a guy. But really, that’s me getting into the philosophical part of a anime made for sexual reasons. That’s what happens when you try to break down a anime and review it, even with a hentai. read more

Well. This is one of those shows that your roommate from collage suggests to you, telling you its a beautiful story about love and friendship and the rise of actual humanity being the thing that drives the protagonist, when really it's all to put you on youtube, hugging your pillow in fear of if your girlfriends going to walk in and see what you guys are doing.
"You said you were playing Call of Duty, Josh."
I'm not going to even try to recap this trash heap of a disaster since you must know that usually, porn doesn't need a plot.
All you need to know is that unless you have a hard on for little chickboys, fucking eachother because their horny or a friend forced you to bring something for couples night and you felt like a dick. Don't watch this.
Its honestly not worth your time.
The one notable thing is that the sounds they have are actually really good, audio is crystal as you hear moans and gooey fapping so THATS GOOD :D
Other than that, no. read more

If you read the other review, it seems like there is some sort of plot and maybe even something known as character development. Its all lies. If you are a yaoi fan and you read Yaoi for the plot you are going to hate this anime. If you are a yaoi fan and read it for the scenes in between the plot, This is a great anime. It all depends on what you are looking ot get out of a yaoi.

(This review will cover this OVA and the following 2 OVA's that came afterwards.)
This adult anime is about young boys (crossdressing and) having gay sex; the first OVA succeeding in the famously creepy pedophilia territory.
So for all those jokes about it (on 4chan) being "the greatest dang anime ever" (along with Battletoads), my hope is that it would stop. -_-;
Now for those guys who have guy "friends" who recommended this series to you, and you had different expectations; [do like that one guy in that one online comic strip and (if you can get away with it) man-fully punch him in his face. ^_^; ] But let me atleast say this first:
Pico ain't all that bad. Disturbing, but not all that bad.
The art and animation is beautiful, something KyotoAnimu would do. The music can do better without the fruity intro and outro songs. The characters (outside the old man who doesn't do anything, "Thank God" says the Atheist) are attractive and friendly. Not one douche-bag or run-of-the-mill pansy-arse beta can be found herein.
I mean... "Gay Vanilla." Or maybe "Banana." I don't know. It's all love and affection. Plus I'm not one of those bastards who like to shoot at people because of which gender they want to sleep with. read more
