Galerians: Rion

The moment i put this in the DVD player i knew it was going to be a rough ride... but my mind couldn't even comprehend the sheer horribleness i had to endure. Everything about this movie screams avoid and bury so no one has to ever watch it.
(Side note i broke this movie into tiny pieces and throw it into a campfire). Avoid at all cost and if you some how are forced into a position that you must watch it get ready for eye sores in the morning.

Story 4/10

Now you may be wondering how this movie got a 1/10 but still has a 4/10 story... Well thats because that is the only piece of this pile of S#*@ that was even close to okay... If the movie had a reboot with the same story but better everything else then it would be a decent worth watching movie.... But its not. The story however does become muddled in the end and things don't add up which makes it not even worth watching for the story alone.

Art 1/10

I could go on for days on just how bad the art in this movie is but i simply do not want to waste my time. So the best way i could describe it would be as a PS1 game that someone filmed with a 2 MP camera and then converted it onto an old computer. The animations are stiff and not smooth at all. The backgrounds look like someone took two or three colors and just added them randomly on the screen and the character models look like emotionless robots doing the funky chicken...

Sound 1/10

From each scene having a different pitch... to the fact that the rain sounded like someone scratching a blackboard equals an 1/10. The sound was just plain pitifully, voices lacked emotion or depth, explosions and gun fire where downright terrible, and the whole scene where they scream sounds like my cat meowing.

Character 2/10

Now the characters........ you know what.... nvm i don't even want to waste my time on typing the rest of the review... Haha, this movie is not a common one to be found. The game itself is also rare and somewhat underrated. Overall it's a bad game, but I have a soft spot in my heart for it. Basically, if you're a fan of the game, you'll feel nostalgic watching this and find some enjoyment from it. Others may be thrown off a bit and find it extremely weird.

Story: 3/10
The story will probably be confusing if you haven't played Galerians. There's more detail in the game as you explore, but it still isn't very fleshed out. There just isn't enough background information. In a way, I think the story had wasted potential that wasn't brought out. Psychic kids with powers running off of injected drugs sounds so fun, don't you think?

Art: 5/10
This movie is basically a remake of all the cutscenes+ from the game with slightly better graphics compared to the original PS1 graphics. It's not breathtakingly stunning, but if you watch this after playing the game, you'll want them to remake Galerians for the PS2. In my opinion, for a CGI animated film created in 2002, I say not bad. The PS1 game is a survivor horror and when I think back to playing it, Rion's eyes always freaked me out. He still freaks me out in this OVA version.

Sound: 7/10
I don't know how to explain the music since I'm not good with English. It's a mix of ambient sounds and industrial metal? Noise. It's noise that sounds nice to me though. Chill at calm times. The English soundtrack includes a alternative/heavy/industrial/nu-metal genre of music. Bands like Slipknot and sevendust. It kinda brings me back to my angsty self from 2003. Haha. I thought the voice acting was decent-okay. Script was awkward though.

Character: 3/10
Well all these characters are messed up in the head. To be a Galerian is hectic. You'd become psychotic too if you were them, short circuiting all the time and relying on drugs. They just want to be free.

Enjoyment: 6/10
Like I said, if you're a fan of the game, you'll enjoy this OVA. If not, you can probably laugh at it being so awkward. Haha.

Overall: 5/10
