Casshan: Robot Hunter

This OVA seems to be a remake first Casshan also known as Cashern series.
In this world Dr. Azuma built a super android called BK-1 and instructed the android to protect earth and nature, the robot to fulfill his duties began to kill and tyrannize all the human race, because afterall the human race was killing earth. BK-1 then renames himself as Black King Boss. Tetsuya, Dr. azuma's son, after watching this massacre is left with no other choice than that of merging himself with his father latest android becoming the legendary immortal Casshan.

I've entered this Casshan world by the Cashern Sins series, so please bear that in mind. The story is pretty different to that of Cashern Sins. Here Cashern is named Casshan, Braiking Boss is Black King Boss, but this could possibly have been a bad English translation. Luna is actually Tetsuya Azumas girlfriend, the scientist that built Casshan was his father, etc…
The animation was what was to be expected in terms of animation from the middle nineties, sometimes it's pretty cool and sometimes average.

The OVA is entertaining in it's way, but I was left with the impression that the longer and original series must have been more conclusive and in depth (this is a four episode OVA after all while the TV series have 35 episodes.

I might be lucky oe of these days and I may see some fansub picking the original series, afterall, the new Cashern series have been gaining some cult following recently.

With production began in 1973, Casshan has a TV series of 24 episodes, a series of 4 OVAs released in 1993 (Return of Mythology, Journey to the Past, Blitz on the Bridge and The Rebirth) and a movie "live action" promotion launched in 2004 (Casshern). Produced very efficiently by Tatsunoko Production (the same as the Akai Kodan Zillion hilarious and fantastic newly released book "KARAS").

Although little known, Casshan eventually gained fame thanks to "live action", which shows quite accurate and realistic the central story of the anime. Rare is also who has this work in its collection and had the curiosity to watch (I have! I have!). So I recommend: If you have the opportunity to watch ... SEE! ... is nothing exceptional if compared to the works of today ... but back to the past and think that in 1975 ... Casshan was great!

Num futuro fictício, explode uma guerra entre homens e máquinas. Robôs com inteligência artificial resolvem acabar com a humanidade, pois ela não irá apenas destruir a si própria, mas também o mundo. Sem nenhum tipo de restrição, esses robôs começam a ativar bombas atômicas e sistemas de defesa em todo o mundo, fazendo com que os países caiam um a um. Para tentar detê-los, os sobreviventes se unem numa corrente de esperança, tentando salvar as poucas pessoas restantes deste massacre mundial, mas não tinham condições de sobreviverem sozinhos, contra o gigantesco e poderoso exército cibernético liderado pelo Chefe Rei Negro. E em um pequeno comentário do inicio da série, a narradora diz: "... somente uma pessoa que abriu mão de sua vida, tornando-se meio humano, meio máquina foi capaz de levantar-se contra eles e, assim, tentar salvar a humanidade... ele é Casshan".

O anime conta a história do jovem Tetsuya, filho do Dr.Azuma, um cientista famoso por suas pesquisas na área de regeneração de células orgânicas em conjunto com partes metálicas, ou seja, a fusão de tecido humano com partes robóticas. Mas nosso herói, na realidade, era um jovem normal que vivia feliz com a família e viu, de uma hora pra outra, seu mundo cair: assiste seus pais sendo mortos friamente, sua casa destruída, sua cidade mergulhada em fogo. Gravemente ferido, prestes a morrer e incapaz de lutar, Tetsuya acaba tornando-se parte da experiência de seu pai. Para não morrer e, ao mesmo tempo, obter vingança, ele se levanta contra o império das máquinas para tentar salvar a humanidade, reconstrói o próprio corpo e renasce como Casshan.

Para contrapor um pouco esse excesso de maldade, temos do lado do bem, para ajudar Casshan, uma bela heroína, Luna, que luta contra o Império das Máquinas, agindo como informante e levando alguns de seus atos às ultimas conseqüências. Ela faz parte da Aliança, um agrupamento mundial de países que sobreviveram ao ataque do mais poderoso robô existente, denominado de "Chefe Rei Negro", líder do mundo das máquinas, principal repressor dos humanos, dono e senhor da vida e morte nesse novo mundo.

Mas vou contar um segredinho: Luna foi amiga de infância de Tetsuya, e não só amiga... foi também sua namorada... e depois de pressupor que Tetsuya estava morto, juntou-se à guerra contra as máquinas e nem desconfia da real identidade de Casshan. Acha que estraguei a surpresa?... Engana-se: muita coisa vai rolar nessa improvável historia de amor.

Com produção iniciada em 1973, Casshan possui uma série para TV de 38 episódios, uma série de 4 OVAs lançados em 1993 (Retorno da Mitologia, Jornada ao Passado, Blitz na Ponte e O Renascer) e um filme "live action" promocional lançado em 2004 (Casshern). Produzido de forma muito eficiente pela Tatsunoko Production (a mesma do engraçadíssimo Akai Kodan Zillion e da fantástica recém-lançada obra "KARAS").

Apesar de pouquíssimo conhecido, Casshan acabou ganhando fama graças ao "live action", que mostra de forma bastante fiel e realista a história central do anime. Raríssimo também é quem possui essa obra em sua coleção e teve a curiosidade de assistir (eu tenho! eu tenho!). Então recomendo: se você tiver a oportunidade de assistir...VEJA!... não é nada excepcional se for comparado às obras de hoje...mas volte ao passado e pense que, em 1975... Casshan era o máximo!

OBS: Uma pequena observação: Casshern, o filme lançado em 2004, é uma adaptação bastante fiel ao anime, a não ser pelo início e alguns personagens, que foram um pouco alterados, mas existem cenas idênticas às do anime, principalmente as cenas de luta.
