They are both about love in the midst of war, and have high-tension moments where you aren't sure the characters will survive. They are also about on the same quality level plot-wise.

X/1999 bears an uncanny resemblance to Demon City Shinjuku, pitting troubled characters against one another in spiritual combat against the shadowy backdrop of apocalyptic central Tokyo.

Tokyo Revelations shares a few similarities to X/1999. Both are epic battles for the world, though they have different causes, they involve childhood friends taking opposing sides in the battle for what they believe is right. They also both have slight shonen-ai themes.

X - The Movie basically has the same story as X TV, but the first has much more blood and violence. In my opinion, you must watch to movie just to be curious about how the storyline and characters improved so much in the TV series.
Highlight: the insanity and rampage of Fuuma in X - The Movie is totally shocking. The action/battle fans will be very pleased to watch the character performance. He's in the same gore level as Gatsu (Berserk).
