1000-nen Joou: Queen Millennia

Mindblowingly epic and beautifully tragic movies. If Tomino had the chance to make a sci-fi epic back in the day without having to worry about mech's, Queen Millennia may have been one of the results. The progression of the movie does feel similar to his style, so many things pile up to make an explosive finale. You do need to get through the Ideon series for Be Invoked, though that's probably not the case with the Queen Millennia movie, which is more than likely a redux on the series (like GE999 vs the GE999 movie).
