Synopsis

The story begins when high school student Kazuki Muto is killed one night saving a mysterious girl from a monster, only to wake up in his school dorm, believing it to have been a dream. However, he soon finds out that dream wasn't a dream at all when a giant serpentine monster attacks him and his sister. Tokiko Tsumura, the girl he saved, explains that the monster is a homunculus. Kazuki had been attacked and killed by it when he was rescuing her. However, she, feeling responsible for him, revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest, serving as a replacement heart.

The Kakugane, as Tokiko explains, is an alchemical device that, when activated, takes a certain form based on the Kakugane's user, forming a unique Buso Renkin. The Buso Renkin is the only thing that can destroy a homunculus monster. Using this, Kazuki creates his own Buso Renkin (a huge lance, later named "Sunlight Heart"). Along with Tokiko and her own Buso Renkin (the "Valkyrie Skirt", an execution scythe), Kazuki joins the fight against the homunculi and their master.

Story: Great! The story isn't CRAZY original but how they portray it is really good so it makes up for it. One of the things that the story packs in a lot into each episode BUT it really flows. The plot twists are pretty good and there aren't many spots were things just seem too convenient, which a lot of anime tend to have. One thing that this story has that I really like is that the story has dark moments but also has good humor that lighten things somewhat.

I try not to give away spoilers in reviews but This story is good so read more

EDIT: There is one thing i have to say. Watch the first three (or four) episodes, consisting of Papillon. If you enjoy them, continue watching. If you don't, stop watching. It's as simple as that.

The first three episodes is like the mini-arc going into the main arc, setting the scene, and making the expression known. If you do not enjoy the style (art, characters, all around) then you won't enjoy the rest. I'm not saying that it's all exactly like that, but it is enough to tell if you will like it or not.

This was a generally good anime. Though some of the aspects of read more

Recommendations

Somehow the story is a lot alike.. a guy lives a peacfully life until a mysterious girl comes and gives him power, and then they start fighting monsters together with that girl..
Nobuhiro Watsuki's newest anime is more like fullmetal then Rurouni Kenshin. Kazuki Mutou and Tokiko Tsumura fight homunculi with alchemic weapons. If you loved Rurouni Kenshin or Full metal alchemist then this is a must see
