New Sailor Moon anime commemorating the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon.

Usagi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby, but she is full of energy. One day, she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead, and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a sailor-uniformed pretty guardian of love and justice! As a chosen guardian of justice, Usagi seems to have a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the princess.

Meanwhile, the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal, which has immense power. This causes strange events to unfold...

Can Sailor Moon really find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other Sailor guardians, and protect the princess...?!

I just don't know. I wanted to love this. I spent two years hyped for Crystal, ecstatic when it was announced and terrified it wouldn't actually happen every time it got pushed back. After all the excitement and the biblical-proportioned flood of 20th anniversary merchandise, I'm left feeling a little bitter. What went wrong here? Well... kind of everything. Like, pretty much everything.

Let's address the biggest, pinkest elephant in the room from the start: the artwork. I'm not interested in arguing about the style, just the quality. I think what happened here was an ambitious idea (trying to mimic Naoko Takeuchi's elaborate manga style in read more

I tried not to mind it. I tried to overlook the always-changing faces, the weird camera angles, the god-awful direction. I tried to stay optimistic, and episode after episode I just told myself I'm overreacting. But no more lies. Time to say it - this anime is bad.

Before anybody get's angry - don't get me wrong. Sailor Moon Crystal isn't bad because of the new look, CGI transformations, new voices or new theme music so many people are angry about. These things really don't matter, regardless whether you watched the original 90 version or not.

Sailor Moon Crystal is bad because, to put it plainly, read more

Far too often people will compare the remake of a show with it's original source. You'll very often hear people completely bashing remakes of shows for the sole fact that it's not what they remember. We all have nostalgia goggles sometimes, but when you take them off and look at something like the Sailor Moon remake, you can see what the show on its own is really offering. And what if offers to itsl dear viewers is a complete pile of abysmal shit.

(This review covers the first arc of the series but the second arc is complete shit too for pretty much every other read more

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Crystal was meant to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon and although it was delayed by two years, the waiting was worth it. This is more of a first impressions than a review, since only six episodes are aired to date. Most of the important differences between the original series and the 2014 one are noted here, what you can expect if you grew up with Sailor Moon and what you can expect if you just found out about the show.

Sailor Moon Crystal follows the manga more closely with its story and art, while still making it look and read more

Anime: Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE!
The two of these are very similar in terms of genre, plot and quality, but Binan Koukou is almost like a parody--it's very good for those with Sailor Moon nostalgia, or those who have fun laughing at typical magical girl tropes.
In short, it's almost like a mix of Sailor Moon Crystal and Free!, and not to be taken seriously at all. Good downtime watch material.

Anime: Tokyo Mew Mew
Very similar in the aspect that both contain magical girls trying to save the world. Also similar as both have a romantic aspect thrown into the mix.. teenage high school girls thrown into a situation they at first don't want to be in/ are afraid of.

Anime: Shugo Chara!
*They both contain transformations
*They both are trying to search for a certain item
*They both meets friends and try to relate to each other
*Romance is involved
*Problems that must be fixed in their daily lives

If you like Sailor moon crystal then you'll for sure love Shugo Chara!

Anime: Princess Tutu
Both are magical girl series involving transformations. Both Sailor Moon and Princess Tutu use love and justice to conquer their enemies, although instead of using violence Princess Tutu battles through dance. Both shows contain strong themes of friendship, and the main characters in both have a love interest. Both are suitable for younger audiences but still can be enjoyed by older anime fans.

Anime: Go! Princess Precure
Both are animated by Toei, Princess Precure's animation is 100x better though. Both are colourful magical girl series with little filler (for a Precure season). Both heavily include princess elements. Transformations, villains, monsters and story.

Anime: Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
1. They have very similar characters, especially the main character, both are childish and good.
2. Both are about magical girls.
3. The romance is plenty of important in these two.
4. The friendship is too significant.
