Collection of three different short stories by legendary directors, with Otomo doing one short in each. Neo Tokyo: Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira, Steamboy), Rintaro (Galaxy express, Harlock, Metropolis), yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, X) Memories: Katsuhiro Otomo, Kouji Morimoto, Tensai Okamura (Darker than black, Wolf's Rain) 

These are anthology films containing three different segments each directed by a prolific director/animator. (Otomo Katsuhiro directed a segment in each actually) They were released in the same time period of anime (1989/1995). They both deal with the apocalyptic theme, technology and chaos, suggestive surrealism, dark psychology, and tragedy. Both films vary a great deal in art style between the different segments but still manages to feel as complete presentations. Both are classics with very high class animation. Each anime is the other one's closest match. 

Both are beautifully animated anthology movies made of wildly different components.

If anyone has watched Memories, then the person shall also give Neo Tokyo a try. Since both the 'Movies' are based on a combination of three different short stories; individually, with alternative plots, the viewer may find it interesting while watching. However, another similarity between the two movies as a whole is the plot setting - bizarre and unpredictable - which takes certain turns with the varying story lines. The epilogue, in both the cases remains a sort of punny. The viewer may interpret and deduct the endings as per his/her own perspective, which varies from person to person. In either way, both Memories and Neo Tokyo, if watched one after the other will give the viewer an experience of six short anime films, all total. read more

Collection of 3 shorts involving Katsuhiro Otomo. Both have the format of one "artsy" short with an unconventional art style and minimal dialogue, one scifi ghost story with phenomenally detailed art, and one that treats a dire situation with technology gone wrong in a silly way. 

3 piece art-house anthologies backed by a tour-de-force of creative talent. No reason to dislike one if you liked the other. 

Collections of unrelated short films with no underlying theme, with sometimes very different art-styles. 

Both compile different stories with similar themes which are futuristic, allegoric and have great animation style. 

Considering the first episode, Magnetic Rose, both animes have a similar "feeling", considering both are in space, and the animation are similar as well. If you enjoyed how the characters are drawn in Magnetic Rose you might like the characters in Cowboy Bebop. 

"Magnetic Rose" takes place in a similar future setting in the far reaches of space to Cowboy Bebop. It also has excellent, detailed animation and music by Yoko Kanno. 

Most of the similarities lie with the first short film of memories, Magnetic rose. Both have a similar gritty, realistic, lived-in scifi aesthetic. Both are scored by Yoko Kano, although the soundtracks themselves are very different. The themes of both are sorta adjacent: Cowboy bebop is about people who run away from their past whereas Magnetic Rose is about people getting obsessed and losing themselves in the past. 

Same feeling, but closed stories. If you liked Akira give a try to this masterpiece from the same director. 

Both are older sci-fi movies, and masterpieces. The appeal is similar for both, as the content is jointly dark and engaging. However, the movies diverge in format. Memories is an anthology series, while Akira only has one plot, thus their narratives are very different.  

Akira and Stink Bomb (episode 2 of Memories) are both showcases of mass destruction with incredible animation and a similar visual style. Something happened to the main character that makes him cause chaos wherever he passes, and now a government organization pursues him. 

Second episode - Stink Bomd is very similar, also made by Otomo. It also makes comedy about some hilarious gaffe which is not truly funny. In my opinion is not that good as Roujin Z, but anyway is a short film so it will worth your time for sure if you liked this film. The OST is great, it fits perfectly with the tone of the film. 

Roujin Z is similar to Memories' second short, "Stink Bomb". Both focus around a government program gone wrong, and focuses on something that was designed to be medically helpful being turned around and used for military purposes. They also both have a similar art style, similar character design, and have a similar type of humor. 

Perfect Blue is similar to the first section of Memories, titled "Magnetic Rose". Both Perfect Blue and Magnetic Rose were made by Satoshi Kon(as director for Perfect Blue and as scriptwriter/art director for Magnetic Rose). Both are extremely dark and psychological. They explore the darkness that lurks within seemingly beautiful people. Throughout both, reality becomes heavily distorted as the line between past and present is blurred more and more. 

You will 100% like magnetic rose ,memorie's first movie.  

Both Planetes and Magnetic Rose (the 1st film of Memories) are about space garbage men in the late 21st century. 

Robot Carnival and Memories are an anthology of anime shorts by various artists, With Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira, Steamboy) and veteran shorts director Koji Morimoto (animatrix, eternal family, Genius Party beyond) Being involved with at least one segment in each collection. 

The animation in both is beautiful and they're both an anthology of animated shorts. 

Yamato 2199 uses the premise and story of Memories' segment Magnetic Rose as the core of it's plot. Of course Yamato has a much larger universe and cast whereas Memories is a short story. The Memories' version of the setting is more artsy and mysterious even than Yamato's, and better animated.
