The girl with special power, needed to save both Earth and another world, and superhuman warrior from that world, who protects her and even betrayed his commanders for her sake.

Anime that starts with cheerful young girls given what seems to be a typical heroine roles, but then darker consequences of the situation hits.

Both look like generic, light-hearted shows at the beginning... until the plot really begins to kick in. Both also involve a young girl living through quite a bit of hardship.
report Recommended by greymousie
Both have quite serious story disguised behind animation style you would't expect, similar main character hardships upon discovering something/someone from another dimension and travel between them, sci-fi and fantasy elements. Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku more tragic in usual context of tragedy, while Brigadoon is more of a tragicomedy, depicting a lot of serious issues trough jokes. You will definetly like Brigadoon if you liked Ima, Soko.

Both shows has very colorful, childish and deceptive opening sequence, and also both shows despite the innocent looks, has quite dramatic, mature and tragic storyline. The art seems aimed for kids, but the story, certainly not.

Both are bright peppy girl's shows with MASSIVE DEPRESSION undertones. Brigadoon moreso.

These two series have a very similar feel to them. Both deal with a world in ruins. The character art is very similar. There is an atmosphere of tragedy and deep emotions. Brigadoon has some funnier epsodes that Casshern Sins doesn't have, but overall I think if you enjoyed one of them, you'll like the other.

Similar themes/design/story/animated fights. One goes with the other.

Both anime involve a main character who gains the power to summon a robotic being to fight for and protect them (more characters can do so in Mai-HiME). They start off lighthearted and comedic, but take a darker turn and get very serious and angsty. The main charcters go through quite a lot of difficult, traumatic situations, yet try their best to make life better for everyone.

Both shows involve friends who meet from different “worlds.” As they progress, the shows take a darker turn, and the situations become more dire and depressing.

Both anime involve a girl with a normal life, but once they meet a friend who comes from an unexpected place, their lives begin to change. Both shows get darker and more serious as they progress, and they both show main characters who have to deal with hardships and difficult situations. Uta Kata is a mahou shoujo, and Brigadoon has mecha influences.

Both shows start off as pretty lighthearted, but take a darker turn and throw the characters into despair. Themes of depression, anxiety, and fear are present in both series.

Cute girls and drama. Tears will flow.

Both shows features heroines of young age, dealing with problems much beyond their ages. Both shows have deceptively vivid and colorful Ending Songs, and animation wise they do look for much younger audience. Despite so, both shows deals with heavy and serious themes - while Erin focuses more on the worldbilding, Brigadoon goes more on the emotional and psychological department.

If you enjoyed the darker, more disturbing episodes of Digimon Tamers, I highly recommend checking out Brigadoon. Both shows explore the bond of an innocent child and a non human creature from a different world, although Brigadoon tests the bond between the two perhaps even further than Digimon Tamers, with some truly disturbing and violent fights. Be warned, however, despite its cute art style, Brigadoon is anything but a kids show. The fights are intense, and humans and non human characters are killed on screen. If you enjoyed Digimon and want to see what it would be like in a brutally realistic setting, Brigadoon is  read more

The creator of the Ancient Magus Bride stated in Volume 1 of her manga that Brigadoon was an influence on her. And this should be clear just by looking at the shows. Both are about a girl with no parents who experiences tragedy in their lives, while forming a bond with a powerful nonhuman male creature that protects them. Both are about the love between the girl and her protector and appear to be shojou "girl's shows" at first but actually feature violent and bloody battles, with human characters dying. Both shows are really unlike anything out there, and highly recommended.

Both shows are about the regular world, being invaded by species from other universes, and although both shows have kid-friendly art and feature young characters, the storylines in both is complex and mature, featuring dark and unexpected turns.

If you really enjoyed the bond and relationship that Sakura and Tomoe had, Marin and Moe have very simillar one as well, albeit far more turbulent. Also both shows features their heroines, fighting monsters with the help of otherworldly beings, but it must be noted that Brigadoon can feel much darker, compared to Cardcaptor Sakura.

Brigadoon and Princess Tutu is extremely similar. When I first watched Brigadoon I thought I was watching a clone of Princess Tutu only to find out that it was released the year before. They have both an overly genki young female protagonist, a wildy eccentric story, unclear target audience, they mix humor and serious topics and exposing the protagonist for situations one really can't handle at such young age. The art and animation is so similar that I was sure it was the same studio and same people involved, but it's actually not at all.

Both series employ a similar humor (and include fanservice) at the beginning of they chapters. Subsequently they reveal a melancolic background. If I make a comparison, Brigadoon is better than Abenobashi, although both are highly recommended.

Both anime have a cute, lighthearted start, but then get progressively darker (fear, anxiety, depression, death, etc.). The main character goes through a lot of hardship, yet still perseveres through it, trying to stop bad things from happening.

In both of these series, a normal girl has to deal with what seems to be an alternate world and struggle with individuals from said world as well as themselves. While Brigadoon does not have the magical girl trope, it does have a similar mood to Flip Flappers mostly due to the cute artstyle, cheerful music and how the story progresses and how the characters elvolve throughout the series.

Both series have a young girl(s) as the protagonist who has to befriend an alien who will help them battle the forces of the evil aliens. Both are also in a very cute stye that leads people to believe its a light hearted anime but both have dark, sad, and realistic elements to them.

Both are about seemingly normal people finding a powerful monster/thing and causing problems for other townsfolk.

Both are EXCEPTIONALLY dark mecha shows with aliens and young protagonists. Thematically similar, but vastly different in terms of plot.

love story across worlds makes both shows very similar, despite the big differences

Love stories across worlds seem to define both shows, though their execution is very different

Ridiculous amounts of sadness and love define both series, so though they are worlds apart, they are actually pretty similiar

Both Brigadoon and Seirei no Moribito have young children being protected by strong warriors with mysterious pasts. Both Melan and Balsa originally see protecting their respective charges as nothing more than their duty, but they both eventually come to care for the children they're watching over. Brigadoon has much more comedy and light moments, but both have great action and great heart.

Both involve a chose girl that is supposed to save the world. Both also involve two worlds that are competing to survive as well as "knights" or "fighters" to determine that.

While watching Brigadoon, I almost immediately recognized the art style in something else. Turns out that Brigadoon and Dororon share the same character designer and director. Also, the humor is very much alike in that it’s very zany and wacky with plenty of fanservice used mainly for laughs. Both main characters, Marin and Harumi are also alike. Both anime also have intense moments paired with funny moments inbetween. Brigadoon features monsters of the week while Dororon has yokai of the week.

These series are about a normal girl being involved in a way with a conflict between aliens, so she has to cooperate with one of them while dealing with her personal problems at the same time. Each series has its own take on this kind of story, Stitch And Ai being more light-hearted just like in the whole Stitch franchise, but both have the same core elements : a story about friendship, family and trust, and a cute and colorful artstyle pleasing to the eye.

In both shows, the main character is a young girl with a robot companion/protector who remains optimistic even as they live through terrible events / hardship. Both shows also have a similar lighthearted feel to them, and have an ED sequence that remains bouncy and happy throughout the show's run.

These series were made a few years apart, but had some of the same people doing writing and character design, and it shows. While the main plots of these two shows are very different, both are sci-fi series with mecha or mecha-like robots. If you like robot sword fights, you might like both: in particular, Melan's fighting style bears some similarity to the style Van uses when riding Dann. The major similarity, though, is in the central relationships. Both shows are about the friendship between a young teenage orphan and an older, stronger male protector whom she has a crush on. Melan's personality is very  read more

In a world of another planet in which only men reside, Otaru is the main character who wants to prove himself regardless of what others think of him. He accidentally encounters the marionettes who seem to have a few circuits and bolts short from all the other normal marionettes-they seem to actually think and feel. Meanwhile, evil arises that calls Otaru and the Marionettes to fight to save the world at all costs...In Brigadoon it's Humanoid Mecha meets Human...only the roles are reversed (in a way) Marin is a young girl who accidentally encounters Melan Blue, a Monomakia from a place called Brigadoon, as she  read more

From space they arrive and protect a younger opposite gender in building destroying fights. Thats about all i could think of and in birdy the main male character is interested mostly in humans.
