Although it's been quite some time since Penguindrum's incest love-tri x stalking love dazzled me, it's the only anime that truly reminds me of Tempest. They both have a love triangle at their cores that crosses over into obsessive love; a 'sister' being caught in the middle as the love of those closest to her pushes them to do anything to gain understanding and protect/avenge.
There's this feeling nothing else I've watched quite captures of the balance of the bond shared between two male leads being closer than anyone, yet at risk of being damaged beyond repair by how strongly the feelings for the 'sister' in the middle stretch.
Both animes have two guys who are doing their all for the girl; though at Zetsuen the girl is already dead when at Penguindrum she's deadly ill. They're dealing with supernatural stuff.
Mahiror resembles Kanba a lot. Also both series have an unique feeling.
Frequent references to literature and classic plays in both, they also both involve a 'sister' and two male characters in love with her, and one male character willing to do reckless things for her while the other is level headed, in one the 'sister' is dead already and the other she is almost dead. (That's not a spoiler, you'll see what I mean)
However Zetsuen no Tempest is a lot easier to understand, it has a clear plot with literature references to accompany the main plot, but in Mawaru Penguindrum literature and play references make up the backbone of the plot and a lot is left up for interpretation.
0 They both have two guys involved in drama around a girl.
0 They both have a pretty and strong female main character.
0 Both these shows have fantasy elements.
0 Both of these shows have two attractive male leads who are friends.
0 They both have attractive and vibrant backgrounds and colors.
0 Their graphics are similar as well.
0 I think they both have an interesting plot centered around one of the same themes.
In both animes a younger sister plays the key role in motivating two main heroes. Her life and death is the driving force behind the paths that young men take and behind the occurring events.
I couldn't help but think of Mawaru Penguindrum when I began watching Zetsuen no Tempest. Their length is the same, their pace is the same and the feeling you get from watching them is the same.
The whole brother-sister-lover relationship can only get you to remind of the other one and the quest for sense of the main characters are somewhat alike as well.
Besides both are truly well-animated shows and are must-watch series.

Basically Mahiro is kinda like lelouch... Hakaze is like C.C
and Aika is like euphemia, and yoshino is like suzaku...
Mahiro helps out Hakaze just like how Lelouch helps out C.C..
both animes have a strong duo of protagonists who make/break the story as it takes its course, the storyline changes with the protagonists decisions, they are motivated from the death of a loved one.
both protagonists are smart, strong willed, and driven for revenge/resolution/content for a loved one, and they are accompanied by another childhood friend who also partakes a significant role which also decides the course of the storyline.
both contain unexpected/or expected twists/plots, and they do contain the usual portrayal of genres, but they both contain something indifferent that keeps the viewer on edge.
they are similar in the duo protagonists driven for a reason from the death of a loved one, and they will do anything it takes to bring them to satisfaction.
Ever heard great minds think alike? Yoshino is a great thinker, just like Lelouch. Both are powerless when it's hand to hand combat but excel when out thinking opponents. Both Lelouch and Yoshino need the strong opposite in the duo. In Code Geass, ita Suzaku and Zetsuen no Tempest it's Mahiro. Also, I can see a relationship between Suzaku and Nunnally almost like Yoshino and Aika. Lastly,C.C and Hakaze are women with an ability. Without that ability they become useless and they both cling on to the thinker.
In both shows, the main character does whatever it takes to get his revenge on the one who killed a loved one. In Code Geass, it's Lelouch's mother, while in Zetsuen no Tempest, it's his step sister. Lelouch uses geass which he got from C.C from a contract and Mahiro used magic talismans he got from Hakaze. One of the differences is that in Code Geass, Lelouch is trying to create a peaceful world for his sister to live in, but in Zetsuen no Tempest, Mahiro couldn't care less what happens to the world so long as he gets his revenge.
Code Geass (R2 included) and Zetsuen no Tempest are quite similar in many ways ranging from underlying themes, presentation, and characters. They both share different Shakespearean elements and themes reflected in Hamlet (revenge, martyrdom, etc.), but this aspect emphasized more in ZnT for different plot reasons (that I will not mention for spoilers).
The greatest similarity is between the characters. Lelouch is most similar to Yoshino- both are cognitive individuals who remain calm even when the time is most tense and think things through. They both also have secrets that make and shape their character. Mahiro is most similar to Suzaku- both are rash individuals who jump straight into the action defying reason. Both also have a death of a loved one that fuels their motives.
There are many more similarities between them, but the key ones (in my opinion) are listed here.

In both:
- A mysterious phenomenon takes place: In DTB is the appearance of Hell´s gate and in ZnT is the Tree of Genesis.
- A group of people has supernatural powers related to that phenomenon: In DTB are psychics and in ZnT are mages.
- The use of magic requires remuneration.
- One of the main girls is able to use powers related to time, while other has a power that can be used for good or evil.
- Both have complicated dialogues/plot and are by studio BONES. IMO, Znt had more likable and more "human" characters than DTB.
-Both are Shounen battle anime.
-Both have great fighting scenes.
-Both protagonists are badass and capable of some whooping.
-Same studio.
Both series are set in a dystopian like city that have many secrets with the main characters being the center of it all.
Both series has supernatural elements involving inhuman powers.
Both series involves a supernatural phenomenon certainly taking place in the story that disturbs the normality present
Both series involves secret organizations.
Both series' main female protagonist has powerful abilities.
Both series has a catchy OP song with other noteworthy OST
Both series have rich and complex characters where the logic behind motives plays an important role in furthering the story. Each series has excellent character development and is truly worth checking out for people who want to care about the characters. Action's great as well.

Two anime fond of shaking that age-old spear that is Shakespeare. One is the loosest of adaptations (RxJ); the other takes inspiration from Shakespeare's work as it happily throws around quotes from Hamlet & The Tempest (ZnT).
It's HIGHLY DOUBTFUL Shakespeare would've envisioned flying horses, trees fighting and the like. And you aren't going to find dialogue that tries to be faithful to the source material's old English roots unless you watch RxJ dubbed. BUT, both anime are tragic love stories given an anime twist, so they're still easy to link as anime.
- Both are based in Shakespeare works.
- First episode starts with the murder of a character.
- Both have a strong heroine and only she has the power to save the world.
Zetsuen makes many references to one of Shakespeare's plays, Hamlet, while the other show is a direct adaptation of the play, Romeo and Juliet. Both are dramatic and serious, focusing only on a few characters and their individual conflicts.
Both anime are loosely based on the plot of different Shakespearean plays.

Both pieces display some plot similarities, like for instance the typical "the world is in danger" due to a virus that kills people by transforming them in crystal/metal and the hero with a mysterious deceased sister that was also connected to the other hero. Both animes have great soundtrack and character designs.
I must say I enjoyed Znt much more than GC. In my opinion, ZnT is GC done right: that is, even if they share plot similarities, the stories differ completely, the direction of Znt was well executed, not containing any of the flaws, plot holes and fanservice of the former. Also, the characters in ZnT have a good development and evolution, with their distinct personalities breaking the line of cliché, leading them to become one of the most unique protagonists of the genre.
If you haven't watched any of these animes, then if you would like to watch a lighter anime with more action and angst go for GC, if you prefer instead, to watch deep, stimulating and confusing dialogues with poetic twists, go for ZnT. If you watched one of the mentioned, and you usually like anime with plot similarities, then you should watch the other, you might come to enjoy it too.
Both series has similar artwork that is noticeable. But beyond that, the main characters and the settings are also similar. For instance, the male protagonist also has a deceased sister and the setting involves around a powerful virus.
Both series has the main protagonist who has a tough friend who is independent.
Both series has drama and action that have a backstory.
Both series the shounen-like supernatural themes involving powers in conflict.
very similar characters and also similar story. Two guys- Friend going to save the world. Also there is a virus that kills people by transforming them in metal.

It's a original and also deep thinking story where the characters face each other choosing what they consider to be right or wrong, leading to a big development of events.
The both are full of very intelligent and hyper-rational characters, fast reasoning, deceits and deductions.
Fast Thinking? Required.
Using the logic? Required.
Like? I hope yes.

Both have mysterious feel. And there is a similar point that both animes share.
Both anime have time travel theme, but one is time traveling to correct/bring back to original what shouldn't have been done while another time traveling which leads to the current state. Which is which is for you to find out.
The both tackle with time travels and their logic.

Two boys, one girl, widespread /disease/. IDK, I just remembered No. 6 when I watch this >u>
Well...
+ There is a mysterious disease that spreads fast and kills people. The government is doing their best to hide it.
+ There are two main characters, both guys. One is extremely active and loves to fight while the other one is more reluctant.
+ The two main characters were friends for a while but then get separated for quite a long time. Later, when one of them is in danger, the other jumps in and saves him, reuniting them.
+ Deals with post-modern society technology/skills.
+ Studio Bones
and well this one is for the yaoi fangirls...
+ The two main characters are totally shippable.
Two main male characters. Both animes have the same feel. I just remembered No. 6 when watching ZnT.

Both stories take place in alternative nowadays, with magic and mysticism in it. Kara no Kyoukai is more brutal and murderous but I find them more or less similar.
For Zetsuen no Tempest and the whole of the Kara no Kyoukai film series:
Both are rather pretentious titles, borrowing elements from and making references to a lot of external material (although one limits this "creative" transfusion to Shakespearean literature, mostly) with varying degrees of success (read that, "quite awkwardly").
Both pay a lot of attention to their particular takes on magic and magical eschatology, with a subfocus on the non-sensical/paradoxical/to be corrected/hidden nature of the methods of magic, possible or employed. Or in short, lots of magic babble about relatively similar things.
Both are character and setting driven more than anything, running on a two parts dialogue and one part action mix.
Beyond a few more minor things, the similarities stop here as plot-wise, KnK is more of a mystery / romance with harem elements, while ZnT is a revenge / love triangle story.

Both shady, full of surprises, dynamic, with interesting character.
Drr! is more comedy and ZnT more mystery/drama.
great animes , lots of fun watching them , never lost interest
|
|
|
Both have different geners but the temptation to fight is always alive.
|
|
|
- similar kind of mysterious climat
- puzzles, deduction, fast reasoning
- nice logic
- very interesting characters
|
|
|
Both invoves a complex love story that is the fuel to the rest of the story, where the love is so big that it lead the whole universe to bigger events.
|
|
|
both are supernaturally awesome . with a lot of excitment
|
|
|
Both protagonist live a normal life until thrown into the world of magic.
|

|
Zetsuen and Umineko have similarities in terms of witch mystery and tragedy of murder and the incidence of a complicated story.
|
|
|
Zetsuen no Tempest is similar in the use of magical powers, but it is not similar in much else besides that. The characters are sort of different in that in K they have more development and you get to see them progress over time. In ZnT the characters are pretty much static and don't have much growth.
|

|
Both anime came from the same studio (Bones), and both have very similar OST. Although there is no plot, or setting connection between the two, they still feel very close to each other. if you liked the first FMA series, you should definitely watch Zetsuen no Tempest

In brief, give it a try if you're into:
atypical tales of romance,
reddish haired girls responsible for churning out plot,
strong usage of allusions to classical literature (see Psycho-Pass as well),
gloomy gloomy moods,
beautiful ambient soundtracks,
ominous eyeball plants.
If you're bored and wanna read something:
Both Zetsuen no Tempest and Aku no Hana have very strong literary references (quoting, and relying on their respective pieces), implausible plots, and awkward love triangles. Zetsuen has Shakespeare's Hamlet and the Tempest, while Aku no Hana has Les Fleurs du Mal by Baudelaire (which personally makes me think of the gloomy baudelaire children from the series of unfortunate events, but that's something else entirely). These literary references are important if not crucial in both Zetsuen and Aku no Hana.
While there are complaints about the animation style of Aku no Hana (I personally like it. The expressions and nuances, the fidgety fading and jerking, really make it all the more disturbing), I have to say that both have pretty great dramatic soundtracks. (please listen for the ED of Aku no Hana). If Aku's animation wasn't your thing, then Zetsuen has excellent animation by traditional terms.
Zetsuen is 26 episodes of magical action-y revenge, loopy plot/time line, and messing-with-your-sense-of-logic, while Aku no Hana is 13 episodes of suspenseful-psychological, really twisted Bildungsroman, making-you-uncomfortable. Both plots are centered around the love of a girl, but only one involves the fate of the world, guess which one. Awesomely confusing paradoxes vs completely unsettling, insanely capable vs incredibly gutless protagonists; take your pick.
Oh there are also evil blooming eyeball things in both, if that's what you're into, referred to as fruits and flowers respectively.

In a way, I feel that both series are a bit related to each other.
Both series has two prominent female characters as the main characters. In addition, they possesses supernatural abilities of their will.
Both series has a mystery like feeling to them along with drama, action, and some thriller like endings.
Both series also holds secrets regarding one of the main female characters as a prominent plot device.

|
pretty much the same story focusing on a guy, his best friend
and his sister in a situation where they have to take sides
( good or evil ) based one's logic and philosophy ..
in both, the characters find themselves torn between their
selfish desires and the tendency to move on..
both deal with the same themes : life and death , revenge , magic
, psychology ,the end of humanity , revolutionizing the world...
|
|
|
Both protagonist are obsessed with another indirect main character's case. Then both revolves their mysteries that happened a few years ago and tried to find out the "truth".

In the greater sense, these anime are quite similar. Offering a mysterious beginning giving an unknowing and tempting view towards the viewers on what the anime has to offer. The characters will gather and head for a grand adventure, while experiencing strong friendship, or something even beyond that. An adventure with some sort of power, yet not only being tested physically but mentally too as they deal with powerful emotions.
To anyone that likes a dark, complex anime that slowly gives off its secrets, I can almost ensure you will find the anime likable.

|
similiar story about saving the world.
|
|
|
Zetsuen no Tempest anime is similar to Rave (MANGA) regarding those time travels especially the epic Seighart moment which is only shown in the manga of Rave. I can't compare manga to manga as I haven't read the manga of Zetsuen no Tempest so there you have it, but upon reading some news/discussions that the anime of Zetsuen no Tempest is faithful to the manga except the ending is slightly different then it could be assumed the same.
|
|
|
Both of these anime centers around revenging the protagonist's family with mystery surrounding them. The art is very well drawn for these two anime and portrays the characters and story realistically (except the parts about magic and giants,of course).
|
|
|
Warning, this recommendation contains spoilers.
In both:
- Main protagonists have to save the world and solve a mystery regarding a girl.
- Bloody fights/magic/sci-fi.
- There is a plot involving elements of time travel/time warp.

It's bouth unreal. Uragiri was my first thought when I saw stained glass at the begining of Zetsuen.
