Synopsis

Set a few years before Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, A.D. Police chronicles the tales of Mega-Tokyo's special police division designed to control rogue Boomers in the city. A.D. Police Officer Kenji Sasaki faces a major dilemna: he loses another partner to a rabid boomer. A day after he's sent off-duty, he receives a new partner in the form of German cop Hans Kleif. Funny thing is that Kenji sucker-punched Hans at a bar the night before. Not only does Kenji face the everyday task of controlling Boomers, he has to learn to adjust with his new partner.

AD Police is essentially a cast of male police in the bubblegum crisis world. It does not include the frilly pop-star-like alter egos the girls in bubblegum crisis have. It does not look like power rangers. This is a very serious show which holds nothing back.

That said, it was made with a sense of '80s nostalgia. It has its flaws, but is a gritty and violent enough series which more than makes up for what it lacks in plot and character depth.

I suppose one could compare it to Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed, but it's its own show. If you want to watch a read more

AD Police is the kind of show that would really benefit from being condensed into a movie or an OVA. If you stripped out about half of the dragged out scenes and needless exposition you'd have an accidentally entertaining piece. There is no denying that AD Police is bad, the only question with these kinds of shows is "can you squeeze any kind of amusement out of it?" Or as the show itself likes to phrase it, "Just how bad can things get?" Indeed, an astute observation on the part of the creators of this show. That is the question you will find yourself asking read more

Recommendations

Characters are reminescent of each other. AD Police tv is what I thought of while suffering thru 1st episode of this series.
AD Police is a spin-off. You don't need to watch one to watch the other, however its just interesting to know more about the things going on in the show with the boomers and what not. I found AD Police to be somewhat better in terms of the characters and plot.
