I watched this series on Spike TV and i must insist this is one of the best dubbed animes i have ever watched!
The voice over cast list start off with Samuel L Jackson (pulp fiction, Starwars) and Kelly Hu (X2: Xmen United) two A list actors very famous for their action movies. And their voices get put through the test as they use their voices for multiple characters in the series. And the voices they portray are very believable in my opinion.
As in terms of animation value, one only needs too look at their hair and their tattered clothing flowing in the wind just like in a classic samurai showdown of the old days. Everything is very artistic and not to mention VERY gory (which is a plus for me).
As expected of a 5 episode series, the story is not very detailed on character backgrounds and side stories except the main character (their website more than explains each character). But, they do throw you in the mix right away. The main character "afro samurai" is the second samurai in the world. And he is on a mission to become the number one samurai in the world. And thats where the story starts, his journey to his headquarters.
the verdict? For those who want a quick pick me up action anime that you can finish in one sitting, by all means pick this up! but if youre looking for a super long anime, youre looking in the wrong place. read more

A samurai. With an afro. And they point it out in the title, like watching his head wouldn't be noticeable enough.
Anyway, this is a pretty butt kickingly awesome anime about a samurai. While this samurai does not want to know what's the up with the mother-f*cking snakes on his mother-f*cking plane, he does want sweet, smelly revenge for the decapitation of daddy Afro.
Art has some cool fight scenes, like in Samurai Champloo, just more violent. The sound has excellent hip hop origins, so that's good too. So is Samuel mother-f*king L. Jackson's voice.
Afro and the dude who is his annoying sidekick never grow or change, but damn aren't they funny and cool, anyway.
Watch Afro Samurai. Mother-f*cker. read more

Very stylized action sequences. Both are samurai themed. Each has a very serious samurai as well as a more laid back, energetic samurai.
Sword Fighting and plaine awsomeness
Both of these have high level samurais shed alot of blood, also the animes contain blood, violence and a sex scene.
Afro samurai is more like a mixture of samurai champloo and samurai Jack, with a darker tone. They both offer a completely different take on the samurai genre as well as the action. Afro's action is a lot more exaggerated while samurai champloo's goes for more realistic sword fights. They're Recommended to anyone looking for some great samurai action
They both have a unique hip-hop flair that, somehow, coincides with the samurai theme. They also both contain amalgamation of the past and present (like monks with rocket launchers, beat-boxing peasants). It's a weird little niche that both of these titles somehow fell into, and we haven't really seen anything like them before or after.
Nice music, nice fight scenes, similar atmosphere, but AS is obviously more EPIC
Both the shows are about samurai! But the most common and rare thing the shows have in common is their Hip-Hop inspired theme!
Both are Samurai action series. Both have a Hip Hop theme. Both have badass action scenes.
Afro Samurai has Samuel L. Jackson.
Samurai Champloo has Mugen.
Both series have great animated stories with bumpin' soundtracks and more sword swingin' action than you can imagine ^^ The general theme of one's past guiding one's future also features prominently in both. If you liked one, you'd surely like the other.
Estilo veloz com espada com um clima meio que street .
Wandering nearly unbeatable samurais looking for one man. Going through a great number of people to get to him. They both give the same feel due to the hip-hop music and the fight scenes.

another great ninja/samurai full of action anime
Ninja Scroll is a classic among anime movies, and has an interesting plot and series of twists that makes it fresh even today. References within the movie itself stay obscure, and it has this subtle flair about it that reminds me of Afro Samurai (or rather, Afro Samurai reminded me of this). They both complement each other to fans, while still being exotically unique and fresh in their own right.
The main thing those anime got in common is the samurai theme and thus the fighting. They're both aimed at the same focus group but ninja scroll goes a bit further with the sexual parts. Afro Samurai on the other hand has more of that dark humor and though talk while Ninja Scroll is a bit more serious.
All in all you can consider Afro Samurai as the more modern type of anime while Ninja Scroll is a typical classic type of anime.
