Well, this is my first review as I am new to this great resource. So here goes....

Firstly, I am not a gun enthusiast. However, I have hunted wild game and know my way around a gun.

Secondly, I AM an anime lover going on eight years now. That said, 14 minutes into the first episode, I was enjoying this original series with full humor while firing short three-round bursts of laughter.

Some Anime just need to be taken lightly. This series obviously is NOT to be taken, nor does it take itself, seriously. It's just a fun romp through the "girls with guns" genre that pokes a lot of fun at cliche after cliche while bringing a completely insane premise to bear.

I read a few reviews and was amazed at the polarization of comments. Quite frankly, I think that is the clue that this is good stuff! In time this will be a classic both in originality and flat out comedy.

Okay, so here is a follow-up: six episodes down the throat and I still like this show, especially the personification of guns to character development.

Without spoiling episode plotting, I will say that the degree of technical detail may put off some viewers, but a little research in Wiki will vaporize that for the assiduous viewer. Upotte!! is cute rifles doing cute things, while teaching Cool Gun Facts™ and pandering pretty heavily to military otaku.

it does a pretty good job of explaining what's going on and for the most part the things it teaches you are pretty accurate, but in order to truly understand and appreciate this show and its characters you need to have a relatively solid grasp of firearms, firearm history and firearm culture.

if you don't like or know anything about guns then you're likely not going to get like 90% of it. a bit like watching Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger without knowing anything about sentai shows.
