Both are s-f series with high school kids. Shingu's plot regards aliens and how people react to them, on the other side Mouretsu Pirates is a bit more space opera themed. Both had similar tempo and attention to details. Great characters - both main and supporting ones.

The style in each is a lot a like, and the characters in each are very similar.

Mysterious happenings are occurring in a small town, and it's up to a select group of kids (and some adults) to save the day! There is also an unfolding mystery happening in the background.

I can describe both of these shows very simply -- It's a Slice-of-life with a sci-fi subplot. Gakuen Senki Muryou (Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars) fits the mold and gives me the same vibe that Figure 17 did. The narrative focuses more on the characters and their interactions with aliens and interstellar scuffles sprinkled on the side. They both feel very similar, with the characters front and center and good vibes permeating the entire series. If you liked Figure 17, Muryou will definitely pique your interest.

Shingu is about an alien invasion in 2070 while Ano Natsu de Matteru is more about a alien secretly hiding her identity both shows contain a lot of plot twist between characters maybe more in shingu than Ano Natsu de Matteru however Shingu doesn't have much romance but it does have some. They all both contain narration from the lead male characters who are both nerdy though one has feelings for someone the other is more a romantic focus and is obvious to the feelings someone has for him.  read more

Both "The World of Narue" and "Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars" are upbeat, postive sci-fi/slice of life anime series. Both are very happy series, light hearted, slow paced, and upbeat, and dignified. Both series deal with aliens who look like normal human beings, and have serious stories, but are cute and never dark or grimmy. Neither series are action packed, exiting, or edge-of-your seat rivetting, but they are instead slower paced shows that deal with normal people (school aged kids) in a sci-fi setting. Both series remember that their main characters are kids, unlike many other anime shows. Both shows have fight scenes  read more

Both shows take the "laid back" storytelling style to a whole new level. Instead of rushing the plot they prefer to guide you along by nudging you from behind for a walk through the forest of stories until you make it to the shining light at the end. Don't expect to be given many details about their worlds because it is left up to you to unravel the secrets. Shingu is centered around Sci-Fi and has a cheerful atmosphere to it. Zetai Shonen focuses on the SuperNaturual(or the "Unknown") and has more of a mystery atmosphere. Both shows are diamonds that were overlooked and are definitely worth the  read more

Has a similar family feel, and the Main Character is also a seemingly average guy with a singular talent that can make a difference.

They are very similar but not in a way you'd expect at first. The more obvious comparison is that both are sci-fi and upbeat.
