Hate You

For those who don't know what 2NE1 is, they're a South Korean pop group made up of four girls; CL, Minzy, Bom, and Dara respectively. I'm a rather new fan of theirs, having just found out about them a little less than a month ago. I'm not really too familiar with K-pop, so just on pure chance, I stumbled upon a song of theirs ("Clap Your Hands") and loved it. I proceeded to listen to several of their other songs and loved many of those, including this one.

There's not much of a plot, considering that it's a one episode animated music video. It basically involved the girls acting as bounty hunters of some sort, chasing down a mysterious red-headed boy. They track him to a pub, there's a little fight scene, now we're chasing him by car, another fight scene, boy turns into a monster of some sort, more fighting, boy is destroyed, the end. Not much to it, but entertaining for a three and a half minute little video.

The only characters in this were the girls (CL, Minzy, Bom, and Dara, as mentioned before) and the red-headed boy who never received a name or anything of the like. There wasn't really any character development or anything, but a hint of romance was involved between Dara's character with the boy. Too bad that it was so short-lived. I guess that it was just a little fan-service.

The art for this was definitely interesting and unique. The girls were turned into chibi cartoon characters of along the lines of what I thought looked like a mix of Panty & Stocking, the Bratz, Lisa Frank, and something totally different and original. It was pretty cute and really cool. The movement was smooth and the colors were bright. A kawaii-punk kind of style, but nothing too wild or outrageous; just eye-catching and fun to look at.

As for how the song fared, I'm a new fan of this group so I'm partial to like their songs. "Hate You" isn't my number one favorite of 2NE1's songs, but it's catchy and I like it enough for it to earn a place on my iPod. I've listened to the song dozens of times, so I'm pretty familiar with it and I'm fond of it. It fit the video's theme pretty well, and is something that I would definitely listen to again (which I have, as I said before).

Overall, it's a pretty good animated music video. If you're new to this group like I am, this is probably one of the best songs/videos to start with. If you're not really interested in the band but have a few minutes to kill and want to see something cute, then this music video might be for you. read more

I personally didn't like the song. The art style was cool, but not that great.
It's not like "OMG I HATE THIS SONNGGG!!!!!111one1", but... I just truly didn't enjoy it.
It was too... average/normal for my taste. Maybe I'm odd, but I was just bored watching this.
