SynopsisSpecial episode included in the last of the nine Blu-ray/DVD volumes.
The story is set a few months after the last scene of the television series. On a calm day in Akihabara, Okabe and the other laboratory members are invited by Feyris go to America. Mayuri and the rest are planning to reunite with Kurisu, who had come back to an American laboratory. A few days later, Okabe's mad scientist persona Hououin Kyouma arrives alone at the airport in Los Angeles, where he may be taking the first step to leading the world into chaos.

White Fox does it again.
Instead of a generic beach episode that we witnessed maybe a million times already in many different anime series we get a true sequel to the Steins;Gate anime series in this special titled: Oukoubakko no Poriomania or in English Egoistic Poriomania.
And this special has everything. EVERYTHING!
Extremely funny comedy moments. Strong plot moments. Romance. Okarin speaking hilarious English. Christina with cat ears and in a maid uniform. Daru in an Hawaiian shirt. A Suzuha 'look-alike' that drinks with Okarin in a bar.
White Fox knows how to spend their budget right. If you seen many anime series you know that usually in these kind of special extra episodes we get some crappy beach episodes and not true sequels to their respective series.
But White Fox knows how to make their anime good and that's why I love you, White Fox.
We can now safely say that Steins;Gate boasts with an amount of zero filler episodes, every episode has a very strong importance to the plot.
Story: 10
The story in Oukoubakko no Poriomania starts on-the-mark from the very beginning.
We see Okarin walking in a desert-like road speaking to himself on his shiny closed cellphone (Damn I want a cellphone like his), saying the usual stuff we expect from him such as 'This is the choice of Steinzu Gaaiito (I always heard this line like he says Shota in za Gate) and El Psy Congroo.
After that the next scene shows our lab members preparing to go in a trip to America sponsored by Feiris.
And after that our lab members are shown in America, and Okarin obviously doesn't know English well so he gets himself arrested (A couple of times, even).
Almost every character (except Suzuha, but that's expected if you watched the main series) has their own special moment in this special. Okabe, Kurisu, Mayuri, Ruka, Feiris and even Daru and Moeka (Moeka even blushed for a bit! HNGGGG, my heart).
This special is indeed a very strong fanservice to the fans, just without any boobs or ass. What I mean by fanservice is a service with strong plot moments and hilarious comedy.
Art & Animation: 9
The art and animation have improved by a whole margin from the main series. Characters are drawn better and the animation looks more fluid than ever, with much less 'QUALITY'.
The America scenery is also believable and looks great.
Sound: 10
Miyano (Okabe) and Imai (Kurisu) sound much like in the main series, and their voice acting along with all the other characters is top-notch. Hacking to the Gate is used as the ED, and some tracks from main series along with some new additions are present.
Character: 10
Okabe - Much like in the main series, he is crazy and lovable.
Kurisu- Tsun done right, Dere done even better.
Mayuri- Has her moments.
Daru- He looked awesome in the Hawaiian shirt.
Ruka- Daga Otoko Da.
Feiris- Moe.
Moeka- Quiet and has her secrets.
Suzuha- Wasn't shown in this special, but we get to see a 'look-alike' of her.
Mr. Brown and Nae- Not much to say about them.
Enjoyment: 10
I have received a very high enjoyment from this special. Everything was in the winning formula, much like the main Steins;Gate series.
Overall: 10
This special shows that anime still has a future. Every anime studio should learn from White Fox how to make their anime good.
I'll be also writing reviews for:
1.The main Steins;Gate series after I'll finish reading the visual novel.
2.The Steins;Gate movie.
3.The inevitable Robotics;Notes anime adaptation in the future. read more

The problem with most anime OVAs are that they tend to be composed of leftover material that weren't able to make it into the main series or what some might consider, pointless fanservice. Most of the time, these OVAs are packaged alongside the main series during their DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Since they tend to be stand-alone stories, one can full-well expect an abundance of fanservice and a general absence of any plot or character development. So it's no surprise that a great majority of these OVAs end up being nothing more than an extra bonus to encourage people to buy the DVD/Blu-Ray Discs of a series.
During its original run, Steins;Gate provided an extremely successful foray into the sci-fi genre of time travel and parallel universes. The series was praised for both its incorporation and solid explanation of real-world scientific theories into a very well constructed plot. The viewer was always kept on his or her toes, waiting to find out how the very likeable cast of characters could change their fates. Steins;Gate was also able to succeed at one thing that many titles in the current market tend to gloss over, which was the fact that everything in its plot had a logical explanation behind it. What this did was allowed the plot twists in the series to become more than just doses of shock value as the viewer generally had to maintain an active mind in order to figure out everything that was going on.
Due to the commercial success of the Steins;Gate anime, it was no surprise that we eventually received an OVA title to complement the main series. Even though the main series proved to be one of the most solid titles of 2011, I was a bit sceptical going into watching a bonus OVA that was only created as an add-on to the DVD/Blu-Ray Discs. Thankfully, my suspension of disbelief was proven wrong mere minutes into the episode.
The OVA starts off right where the main series ended. Okabe has successfully achieved a world line with a good future and is now taking a trip back to America alongside some of the other lab members to meet up with Kurisu. And thus begins the story of a group of misfits as they venture off into unknown territory. Of course, this is Okabe we're talking about, so this road trip would end up being anything but normal. A lot of the series’ signature forms of humour are present in great effect in the OVA. White Fox has definitely taken note of some of the more popular comedic moments in the series and has thrown them together into one big package. Since by this point in time anyone watching the OVA should already be familiar with the characters, they will be able to happily appreciate the character-specific jokes and inter-series humour provided. And thankfully, while there are many instances of humour throughout the OVA, it isn't overdone to the point where it bogs down the short plot.
One of the things that I found the original series lacked was a solid ending in which everything was resolved. At the end of the main series, we were left with a quick shot of Okabe and Kurisu reuniting in Akihabara before the credits rolled. For those out there that were still curious as to what happened to the rest of the characters and the romantic tension between Okabe and Kurisu, they should look no further. The OVA manages to do an excellent job at tying up a number of loose ends presented at the end of the series. Considering the 20-minute time-frame of the OVA, there was plenty of attention given to important details which tied back into the overall plot of the main series. It's nice to see that White Fox used the OVA format to provide the series with the resolution it so direly needed. As such, by watching the OVA, Steins;Gate feels more complete in a sense.
The characters in the OVA are pretty much the same as they were back in the main series, with a couple of exceptions. Okabe is thankfully still his usual mad-scientist self but this time around there are a number of subtle differences to his character. White Fox has certainly taken the time and care to show the differences in Okabe's character following his trials to secure the future he wanted. It's apparent in the conversations that he has with Kurisu, how the experience has changed him for the better and made him a more personable individual. While not to spoil anything, Kurisu has also changed slightly from the experience. However, her developments are less pronounced that Okabe’s. On the other hand of things, the supporting cast receives very little development, with the exception of one character (despite the fact that she isn't present at the moment). Even though most of the other characters exist to only provide mild doses of comic relief in the OVA, their presences do strengthen Okabe's character, and it shows here more than anywhere else. Finally, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Steins;Gate's all-star cast of voice actors are still able to effectively bring each of their respective character's personalities to life here.
Animation and sound remain largely unchanged from the main series, but it's good to know that White Fox is able to maintain the same quality here. Of special note is the fact that the light effects and shading seems to be sharper in the OVA than in the main series, which gives some scenes a more atmospheric feel. While it's likely that White Fox's budget had something to do with this since we're looking at a one-episode OVA compared to a 24-episode TV series, it still signifies a step in the right direction for the studio.
While the OVA format is normally limiting to most anime series, White Fox has successfully used it here to not only wrap up loose ends, but to actually enhance the main series as well. Series such as Baccano and Aria the Origination have already been successful in allowing OVA add-ons to further enhance the characters and quality of their main series. By putting in a little care and effort, White Fox has also shown that a short OVA can be used for more purposes than to just help sell the DVDs of a popular series. It should come as no surprise that fans of Steins;Gate will undoubtedly enjoy this OVA as the same humour, characters and atmosphere are all present again here. Those that haven't viewed the main series first should definitely do so first as the OVA does contain a number of spoilers. All in all, we can take this as a move in the right direction and can continue to look forward to when Steins;Gate's movie is released later. read more

Ok, so, while these two seem completely different in terms of ideas, the fact is, they have some matching core aspects.
For starters, both are essentially 'slice of life'. That is to say that while there are some strange things that happen, not much of it is outside the realm of possibility. There's a bit of time travel stuff in Steins;Gate: Oukoubakko no Poriomania and there's essentially a second world in Clannad (which plays a role in Clannad: After Story, until which it can be used to see a metaphor for what the main character is feeling).
They also both have a kind of romance 'undertone' (in lack of a better word) to them, which both series leave till the end to really focus on for a while before ending it off.
They also have a bit of comedy in them but don't allow that to be the centre of the anime, that is to say, while there are some funny parts, if you're planning on watching either one for the humour alone, you will be disappointed.
One thing that I CANNOT stress enough here though, is that you should NOT watch Steins;Gate: Oukoubakko no Poriomania unless you've seen Steins;Gate, BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON!
