SynopsisIn the future evil horned aliens from the planet Boazan decide to add the citizens of earth to their empire. The Boazan race are a curious mixture of high scientific achievement and medieval culture in which hornless Boazanians are considered slaves. One aristocratic child was born without horns, but was fitted with fake ones. He became a great scientific genius, and was next in line for the throne of Boazan. The cunning Zambojil, however, found out the truth and the genius became a slave, and Zambojil became emperor. The genius led a rebellion of slaves but had to flee to earth. Knowing that Zambojil would want to enslave earth, he set about working with the Earth defense forces including General Oka and Professor Hamaguchi to create the ultimate weapon: the Chodenji Machine Voltes Five! Taking the name Go Kentaro, the Boazan genius married an earthwoman and had three children, Kenichi, Daihhiro and Hiyoshi. These three, together with General Oka`s daughter, Megumi, and the former rodeo star Mine Ippei would pilot Voltes Five.

Both from Tadao Nagahama's "Robot Romance Trilogy"
Voltes V has been compared to Combattler V for having extremely similar storylines, mecha design and characters.
Voltes V is definitely an improvement on Combattler V in terms of story telling however.

another installment in tadao nagahama's mecha trilogy, i grew up with these in the PI, anyway daimos is more focused on romance of a romeo and juliet type of nature as opposed to voltes v's team-based good vs. evil plot, both are great and still intact is nagahama's own style of old-scool mecha action.

Aug 30, 200840 of 40 episodes seen 2 of 8 people found this review helpful I was a little kid in the Philippines when this anime aired on television, so it definitely has a nostalgic appeal that gives it an unfair advantage when I compare it to other giant-mecha anime. I rewatched this series in Japanese with English subs, and I saw it in a whole new light. I think this anime is the quintessential giant robot anime.
I really have nothing bad to say about it. Other than... with old-school robot anime like this, you either get it... or you don't. OR you're Filipi...no and you love this anime because you used to sing the opening theme song with your family whenever it was on.
The English dub (done by Filipinos with limited English skills) was pretty terrible. I don't think anyone would appreciate it unless you were there to experience it back in the day. So if you're interested, stick to the Japanese with English subs.
I give this anime ten thumbs way up. read more
