Legend of Sanctuary is the 40th anniversary special of the Saint Seiya franchise. It was made to be a very loose retelling of the Sanctuary arc with a lot of differences, as it was condensing several chapters of the manga into a 1 and a half hour movie.

Now, you would think that would be a recipe for a disaster, as these types of endeavors typically always end with the characters and plot suffering immensely...but somehow, that isn't ENTIRELY true here.

Don't get me wrong, the individual characters don't have a lot of time since there are so many of them, and the character arcs aren't really read more

This movie is a re-imagination of the basic concept of Saint Seiya. It uses the Zodiac Temples Arc as a base to its plot. So, I'll consider it as an original work for the most part in this review, as I don't like taking something as a bad thing just because it isn't the same as the old one. The problem is, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary has a big flaw in its concept: you can't fit this Arc in a single movie, no matter how hard you try.

Lot of concepts are left open because the movie doesn't have time to explain it to you. read more

"And this is not even my final from!!!"

"Same for me!"

As a huge fan of the original series of Saint Seiya, I was really expecting something incredible before watching it. But now that I think about it, when was the last time Toei made something good?

But let's get to the point, this movie isn't really faithful to the original story.
As expected from a 90-minutes movie, it skips a lot of content (only 5 fights against the gold saints), and needs to adds some bullshit to tie it together.
The movie is really fast-paced and in the end the story doesn't make much sense.
So, this movie isn't for read more

First off, let's get this out of the way, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary isn't the greatest anime movie out there, and it isn't exactly the best SS movie either - but you could do a lot worse. What it IS, is another good addition to the Saint Seiya franchise.

The movie's greatest weakness is that it tries to condense a whole 50+ episode arc (not sure if it's that long, don't quote me on that, but it is pretty freaking long) into a 90 minute film, and that just makes the whole thing suffer from an unstable progression, a rushed plot, and untouched and read more

both movies are highly budgeted anime action CGI movies made by Toei animation studio, while Captain Harlock deals with the problem of overpopulation to sustain more life meanwhile Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary deals with greed and how to properly use great power for the benefit of more life
