Mirai Nikki is focused around the main character, 15 year-old Yukiteru Amano, who is a bit more submissive than your average teenager. Yukiteru even has a habit of conversing with imaginary friends through his cellphone, in a record he calls his diary. Despite Yukiteru's lack of social skills, he inadvertently gets thrown into a relationship with Yuno Gasai, a very passionate girl of similar age that attends his school. The characters' impending collaboration is forced by the take-off of the story's setting theme, a survival game.

Yukiteru and Yuno confront their connection and contemplate working together in the midst of this survival game upon being connected to each other in an interesting and subtlety disturbing way. There are 12 total combatants, including Yukiteru and Yuno. They are all given special diaries that possess unique powers to assist the individual regarding their survival chance. This survival game is conducted and monitored by God himself and the winner shall ascend to his thrown, becoming the universe's new one-and-only god. There is but one victor. Who will be this world's champion? Watch as these combatants fight for survival and a chance at godhood.

So let me tell you about how good this show is, I literally loved every minute of Mirai Nikki. After I finished it I made everyone I know(who was willing) watch it and then I watched it again just because I could. The best thing about the anime is that it keeps you guessing and basically in suspense up until the very end and at the end after all of the suspense you cry, you cry for years. The mc is extremely annoying but that's because he isn't like usually mc's where they are heroic and ready to battle whatever comes their way, he's more read more

The plot of this anime did not disappoint me at all. Though at some further points of the story the plot became a little muddled, it was without a doubt engaging. The threat of imminent death is certainly a factor that grabs a viewer's attention, and at no point did the story falter in delivering excitement. There are a few scenes that provide backstory for various characters which could deter from the main plot, but I thought they were interesting to know given the variety of characters that were introduced. Also, at the end of many episodes there was a comedic short to give a read more

Notice: this review will contain a few spoilers. I'll mark them but if you haven't watched this yet, proceed with caution. Sorry about that.

Survival games have always been one of my favorite kinds of stories. I just love them. So naturally, when I heard about Mirai Nikki's premise, I was greatly looking forward to it. Unfortunately, after an excellent first episode, this series began to get worse and worse; by the end of it all, it had become nothing but a huge disappointment.

Let's begin with the positive aspects of this show. The art and animation in Mirai Nikki are, for the most part, rather good, read more

When I started watching anime i needed suggestions to get started and the first thing people said to me was Mirai Nikki/Future diary, not knowing what i was getting into I pressed ahead and started watching.

The story of Mirai Nikki or future diary is a what if story? what if we could change the future? what if our lives were a game and what if our phones were things that kept us alive.

Mirai Nikki forces the viewer to watch as characters compete in a survival game, the story can be a little hard to follow and you can lose track of what has happened but read more

Anime: Deadman Wonderland
Both series have a young protagonist who is given/discovers he has an unusual power and is required to fight similarly powered people to survive. Both have similar art styles and rather stylishly violent action on top of its inherent moral dilemmas and pervasive air of desperation.

Anime: Btooom!
Both anime are survival death games. While Mirai Nikki lets players use personalized Future Diaries, Btooom! gives them specific types of bombs. Mirai Nikki has supernatural elements while Btoom stays on real side. Main characters are incredibly dumb but Btooom!'s MC at least doesn't care about ethics that much which makes him more interesting.

Anime: Higashi no Eden
Users with cellphone in a survival game aiming for the top to be granted supremacy.

Anime: Death Note
Both of these Anime deal with notes that fortell things. On one side, you have a strong male lead who writes the death futures, on the other side, you have a weak male lead who sees his own future predicted and his possible death.

Anime: Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei The Animation
Both anime center around a set number of people who are forced to play a game of killing one another in order to achieve a goal.

Anime: Elfen Lied
Both series will have you cheering on morally ambiguous or even psychopathic protagonists in violent confrontations. There's a bit of (usually dark) humour and exploring relationships between characters, including romantic subplots. Also, pink hair.
