they have strong strange princesses in a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. both nausicaa and Arete feel for creatures that are scorned be man. the big diffrence is one is fantasy and the other scifi. Post-apocalyptic fantasy?

A subversive and psychologically dense fable about a Princess. Both The Tale of Princess Kaguya and Princess Arete have emphasis on the melancholy of a young girl being forced to behave as the perfect ideal of a princess and all of the subsequent conflicts and developments derives from this premise, with the difference that kaguya leans closer to a historical drama and arete has a more extensive fantastical worldbuilding in a medieval european setting

The brilliant worldbuilding mixes fantastical elements with a believable yet heightened medieval setting, filled with characters that have simple designs contrasted with deep psychological development. The plot has unexpected turns by subverting the classic fairy tales and fable tropes. Both Princess Arete and king Bojji have melancholic moments that are balanced with very emotional moments driven by their good nature.

Both of these anime have a similar calm, pace. Both are starring little girls. Tonari no Totoro is a bit more about the joy of innocence, where as Princess Arete is more about appreciating the little magic of life. I may be going out on a limb to say I prefer Princess Arete, but I hope you enjoy both! Also either can be appreciated at any age.

Fractured fairy tales starring cursed princesses who fight against fate (and evil wizards). Both tell stories about stories and the power they hold, and both critique romantic concepts of princesses and knights. Both feature talking animal people. Tutu has more comedy and intense emotional highs and lows; Arete is more laid-back, contemplative, and at times lethargic. But if you love one of these princesses, odds are you'll like the other, too.

Super similar moral but completely different presentation. Same studio. Mind games is BRIGHT and CHAOTIC. whereas Princess Arete is muted... and slow... Bolth are amazing in there own way. Im my opinion, you watch these two films and you know how to live life.
