In Tokyo's downtown district of Ikebukuro, amidst many strange rumors and warnings of anonymous gangs and dangerous occupants, one urban legend stands out above the rest—the existence of a headless "Black Rider" who is said to be seen driving a jet-black motorcycle through the city streets.

Ryuugamine Mikado has always longed for the excitement of the city life, and an invitation from a childhood friend convinces him to move to Tokyo. Witnessing the Black Rider on his first day in the city, his wishes already seem to have been granted. But as supernatural events begin to occur, ordinary citizens like himself, along with Ikebukuro's most colorful inhabitants, are mixed up in the commotion breaking out in their city.

All this information also applies to X2 Shou and X2 Ten.

The Good:
-Storyline is interesting and completely character driven that will keep you hooked
-Large cast of interesting characters. Shizuo is my favourite character in anime PERIOD. Well, as of right now.
-MEIN GOTT the soundtrack is awesome.
-Voice acting in the sub is spot on.
-Dub, despite some hiccups, is still above average, and dub fans will be pleased. Hear the Freeman, BE the Freeman.
-Animation in the first half of season 1? Unquestionably top notch for its time.
-X2 ten with plot twists and ups and downs GALORE

The Bad:
-The main 3 characters (Mikado, Anri and Masaomi) are seriously the read more

Durarara!! is one of those shows with a double life theme, add that with some gang drama and a headless motorcyclist, and you got yourself a mashup! Which is exactly what this is. A mashup.

Just what I said above. This is a mashup of different cliche or used ideas. The headless motorcyclist, the gangs and mobs, the secret double life of a high schooler, and two best friends who end being on the opposite end. I was a bit disappointed in the fact there was much at the beginning but silly introductions to the characters and their profile. I don't care! They could've read more

"Durarara!!" is a fast paced anime with a very large cast. Very similar to Ryohogo Narita's other work "Baccano!". Within the mysterious city of Ikebukuro are the the entangled stories of a Dullahan working as an underground transporter, a mad scientist, gang leaders, a malicious information broker, his worst enemy who has the strength to lift a vending machine and throw it across the street, and the protagonist Ryuugamine, Mikado who's excited to become a part of the madness.

Due to the fast pace and many storylines this is definitely not an anime for first timers but if you're looking for a read more

Durarara; a review.

I would like to note the massive popularity this show commands, and the rabid nature of its fanbase. Normally, this would be a good enough reason for one to abstain from critically reviewing this show, but oh, the thrill of jabbing at the hornets' nest...

Let us commence.

Round One: The Stage.

Alright, this one is going to be a mess, and I should get this over with in the first bit of the review. Durarara does not have a plot. It has barely any backstory, and relies more on the established 'Rule of Cool' rather than an interesting story or an intricate plot, or even read more

Anime: Baccano!
Same author, same studio. Both animes focus on various characters from the underworld -- criminals, violent gangs and misfits -- with splashes of the occult and the supernatural but set in a thoroughly modern society not unlike ours. While Baccano! had immortals and mysterious elixirs propelling the story along, Durarara! has a dullahan, which according to Irish myths, is a headless rider. Like Baccano!, Durarara! is told by an all-seeing narrator, populated by a large cast, and initially seems very scattered in terms of its storyline but should begin to make sense the more episodes you see.

Anime: K
Both series have what appears to be a somewhat naive, 'head in the clouds' main character, though both have a hidden side and secrets to be revealed.

The series also have a similar... Atmosphere to them, I guess you'd say. There is just something about both of them. Sends pleasant shivers down your spine.

They also have a variety of viewpoints, both switching from time to time to focus on different characters and aspects of one huge puzzle; though Durarara is more complex than K, with a broader cast of characters as well.

Anime: Death Note
Both of these series have a similar vibe for me. Both the main characters are highschool students bored of their current lives, who accidentally end up with power over a huge amount of people. They both keep their real identities a secret from their followers, and their followers are a mixture of old, young, rich, poor, etc.

Both series also have darkly fantastical creatures; in Death Note, the Shinigame, and in Durarara, the Dullahan. However, despite their ominous appearances and folktales, neither being is evil. They both give guidance to the main character, without supplying all the information and working for their own cause./>
I would definitely recommend Durarara to anyone to enjoyed Death Note, and vica-versa.  read more

Anime: Kamisama no Memochou
Both of these Anime are done in simular styles as each other and they start off being told from the same persepective, the point of view of the male character. There is a mystery element to both and the characters in both series have their own qwirks.

Anime: Higashi no Eden
It's detective and full of adventures. You can find many similar things.

Anime: Kekkai Sensen
Do you like wacky action? Do you like unusual cities? Do YOU like cool characters? And finally, do you like some good ol bromance? Chances are you do if you are looking through the recommendations for kekkai sensen or durarara. Both of these shows offer this, heck, both of them have guys in suits! They have a lot of similarities, so you will probably like one if you like the other.
