Honoo no Labyrinth

There are moments in my life when I stop and say, 'You know, they could have done something else instead of this.' And that's definitely how I feel about Labyrinth of Flames. Instead of donating the money used to make this mostly-awful anime to a charity or to even using it to buy themselves a nice dinner and some new clothes, the creators decided to bestow upon us viewers a very unwelcome gift.

The story is decidedly very bad. Since it is an ecchi anime, of course nobody cares if the plot is shabby or if the storyline is ridiculous! Wrong, wrong, wrong. I don't know why people who decide to make panty and boob-flash anime also believe that a weak story is acceptable as long as there is lots of fanservice to supplement it. No, it doesn't have to be that way. There are ecchi anime out there that have managed a decent story behind it, so this is inexcusable. A young man lives out his geek fantasies on a ranch-like hidden town. Bad guys appear, battles ensue, panties are flashed, boobs are bounced. The End.

The character design is terribly dated. And it's sad to say that none of the female characters were attractive at all, and this anime depended on that. Also, the animation was poorly done, as most of the animation was focussed on making the boobs extra bouncy or making the girls jump high enough so that you can see their underwear from a ground-level view.

I actually had to suppress a snort there, as I am now going to talk about the so-called "characters". Sure, there were characters all right: a busty cowgirl, a busty ninja, a busty princess... I think you should start seeing a trend here. Needless to say, the characters were flat, undeveloped stereotypes without an ounce of personality in their bones. At most, they were fairly amusing, but then, knock-knock jokes are fairly amusing as well.

Although there is a tremendous amount of badness in Labyrinth of Flames, it can be enjoyable if you like making fun of something, or if you are into ecchi humour. Did I enjoy this? I can say I liked it better than having a brick fall on my toes, that's for sure.

I strongly advise intellectual thinkers to keep far away from this anime. Unless of course, you'd like to work out the angle of elevation the girls must reach before they start flashing the audience with their undergarments. read more

You completely miss the point of this anime. COMPLETELY.
It's not just another parody OVA with bunch of fanservice.
It's a USSR and Russian culture parody. So, for haters it does not count as worthy, but we Russians (and I think Russian culture lovers) like it very much. Not all, but most of us, who is not an ill hooray-patriot and can laugh upon its birthplace.
I am not a patriot and I am a little wapanese, but I still like Russia, so thematical jokes I found sometimes funny. For example, this anime.
It is good. It is really good.

Story: 9. An ordinary tale about neophyte-samurai turns to become a crazy and action story. Imagine that.

Art: 8. Maybe it's because I like old-fashioned drawing style.
Who said about boobs? Go to hell with your boobs, if you can't see anything more.

Sound: 8. It's not so special, but Kalinka-malinka in ending - that's a very interesting move.

Character: 10. Wapanese-samurai - you won't see somebody like him in lots of anime, right? Of course, there are some anime and video-game characters which wants to be Japanese, but without such deep color.
Another characters are not so original, but samurai sweeps them all.

Enjoyment: 10. I liked it. Really.

Overall: 10.
Very good "cranberry". I laughed out loud.
We want more like this.
