Madou King Granzort is one of the first anime I've seen. Although this was first aired in 1989, yet it stood out magnificently amongst the mediocre Chinese and Western animations in the late 90's. I even went as far to purchase all the merchandises.
The art is fluid and the music is addicting, even by today's standards. The transformation sequence is one of the most memorable scenes of my childhood.
The plot is nothing original, it is very much similar to many other Sunrise shows. In many ways it can be compared to Gurren Lagann, but without all the over the top drama. The story promotes teamwork and trust without the horrible NAKAMA POWAHH we now often see in Shounen.
The characters are everything but generic, each character have their own goals and story behind it. There is no flimsy romance, although I'm guilty of shipping a few characters ^^;
Given its age, this may not appeal to everyone. If you enjoy a good mecha show with a strong plot, go ahead and give it a try. read more

What can I say..True Masterpiece..Story is deep..characters well figured and made..music is addicting..Animation could be better but hey we are talking late 80's
early 90's anime here.I have to add that it reminds me of TTGL.Today's mecha anime that we watch are all washed up stories repeating on and on...
Do yourself a favor and watch Granzort.Like a breath of fresh air!

Both have Robots, Fantasy, Adventure, and Magic. If you like anime about robot, especially SD (Super-Deformed) type, watch this and have fun.
