Having watched the triple-feature "Memories" a while back, I decided to move onto another, titled "Short Peace". "Memories" featured some great content, but it was mainly held up by a single part of it. "Short Peace" went for completely different genres and styles and threw them all together, bringing a more inconsistent feel that made the whole idea of packaging of them together a bit meaningless. Manie-Manie: Meikyuu Monogatari or "Neo Tokyo", on the other hand, is more of a package deal in that each part aids in the enjoyment of the entire threesome. All of these parts are memorable and all are engaging. From read more

This particular anime is divided into three separate segments, each under a different screenwriter and film director. The following of those screenwriters/directors being Rintarō, who worked on anime films like Metropolis, X & Captain Harlock; Yoshiaki Kawajiri, known for creating titles such as Wicked City, Ninja Scroll (the movie, not the f***ing TV series) & Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust; and last but not least, Katsuhiro Ōtomo, who we all know for Akira, which is not only one of my favorite anime, but one of my favorite movies.

The first segment is “Labyrinth labyrinthos” by Rintarō about a young girl named Sachi trapped in a game read more

Well, well... what do we have here...
Neo Tokyo is composed of three short films, each one directed by a giant of the anime industry. Since the works are so different from each other, I will comment them separately n_n.

Labyrinth labyrinthos (also known as Manie-Manie), by Rintaro (he participated in such things like Jungle Taitei, Astro Boy, Petshop of Horrors, X/1999 and many other renowned works).
This is the first short, and the most surreal of the three. LL introduces us to Sachi, a girl that, along her cat Cicerone, is sent to a giant maze, after crossing a clock/mirror/portal/whatever. Once in read more

Some of the 1st anime short-story´s ever made , and a damn cultclassic that u don't see much anymore in 21st century anime. And yeah it was handdrawn ofc in 3 diffrent ways made by some of japans most revered anime directors, very well done. Each of the story have an special feel to it , futuristic, or just dramastyle with some charach. involved rapidly, but it ends with sense, background scenes are a bit sketchy an lightcolored, but marvelous surroundings nevertheless. for years on end i ever had this on videotape i really enjoy things like this and became a fav just like read more

Compilation of 3 different and totally unrelated shorts by 3 different directors.

Similar late 80s anthology movies with Katsuhiro Otomo (AKIRA, Steamboy) as a main director.
A collection of experimental shorts by a number of accomplished directors and artists.
Manie-Manie: Meikyuu Monogatari (Neo Tokyo) is a triple-feature, only the first part being comparable to Nekojiru-sou (Cat Soup).
Have trippy visuals that are related to a dark theme. Are atmospheric and imaginative. Involve a cat venturing through strangeness. Have a simple plot that could be described as a single event, yet that event spurs off into numerous unexplainable situations.
If you liked the idea of racing as dangerous and violent with champions obsessed with winning in Redline, then the second segment of Neo-Tokyo: Running Man, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, shares many of the same convictions. Smooth animation and great detail in destruction of vehicles are present in both.
