Hunter x Hunter: Original Video Animation

The ending of the 1999 HxH was bittersweet. It left us hanging and we had alot of questions that were unanswered for. So this 8 episode ova series gave us a satisfiable conclusion to one of the best and my favorite arc in the HxH series.

Very good story with great pacing and atmosphere, from the beginning till the end it was intense and entertaining. The animation is pretty much the same from the series. The music was great and the sound choices were well though of. Very good characterization for both the Spiders and Kurapica, they add some details to the characters that make them ... even more likable and interesting then where they were.

Overall a very enjoyable ova that is definitely a recomended watch once you have finished the HxH series.

-One of the best anime arcs ever, without a doubt-

The mere fact that the center of attention is not on the main character already shows how interesting this arc wants to be. Kurapika having a somewhat selfish focus goals makes the anime much darker and gives a "gangster" and a social human style, related to auctions, family and factions fighting or hired killers, which is not a common theme in a battle shounen and that's great.

One of the arc best parts is the plot related ... mainly to antagonists who are developed from their personalities, which shapes their skills and goals, especially the leader of the organization. It reminds us of how well Togashi (the author) developed Nen (spiritual energy) and how he has full influence on all natural and human aspects in the hxh universe, from the most noticeable to the most succinct.

All groups of characters, once separated, can have scenes and cause very interesting situations when they eventually interact, even though they are so different and have such different goals, showing how Togashi knew how to develop his characters and their emotions well and how they should act at each different event.

I also give a lot of value to the opening music that has a more menancolic style and fit very well with the arc style, something that would not be so good with the previous "Ohayo" (as much as I like it a lot) that has a much more style adventurous that the criminological and psychological drama of this arc.

Finally I repeat that this is one of the most well developed battle shounen arcs that I could have contact with, so much that I would risk indicate it out to someone without necessarily having watched the previous arcs (which would probably destroy all hxh experience for him, but he still will love it for sure).

The first 4 episodes are a decent continuation of the first season, it's not as good but it keeps you interested in what's next to come.

After ep 4 it quickly goes downhill it reminded me of the later dragged out spreadsheet episodes of neon genesis so I assume they got in financial trouble or something.

No development during the hostage arc, they just brought in some quick convenient patches to fill the holes in their narrative and then kept explaining us why they wrote them which ruined immersion and the whole OVA for me.

An example of this is their repeats of why paku wasn't able to ... tell anyone, them explaining that gon and killua are valuable hostages because the leader was captured.
There's way more if you pay attention, the entire ending was like this, adding undeveloped details for convenience.
