Characters & Voice Actors
I watched this series on Spike TV and i must insist this is one of the best dubbed animes i have ever watched!
The voice over cast list start off with Samuel L Jackson (pulp fiction, Starwars) and Kelly Hu (X2: Xmen United) two A list actors very famous for their action movies. And their voices get put through the test as they use their voices for multiple characters in the series. And the voices they portray are very believable in my opinion.
As in terms of animation value, one only needs too look at their hair and their tattered clothing flowing in the wind just like in a classic samurai showdown of the old days. Everything is very artistic and not to mention VERY gory (which is a plus for me).
As expected of a 5 episode series, the story is not very detailed on character backgrounds and side stories except the main character (their website more than explains each character). But, they do throw you in the mix right away. The main character "afro samurai" is the second samurai in the world. And he is on a mission to become the number one samurai in the world. And thats where the story starts, his journey to his headquarters.
the verdict? For those who want a quick pick me up action anime that you can finish in one sitting, by all means pick this up! but if youre looking for a super long anime, youre looking in the wrong place. read more
Allow me to share my opinion on Afro Samurai.
Like in a fighting game. You have to beat up the strongest guy in order to become the strongest guy. Afro Samurai got quite clichéd story-line. The story follows Samurai Afro, always acting like a boss; his only desire is to revenge against a bad boy who killed his beloved father.
All in all Afro Samurai is nothing special anime. The only thing why it can be interesting, is style.
Countless fights, rocket-launchers used in close-combats, blood, internal organs and cool poker face afro samurai.
The story is VERY simple but you may like it because it’s really new, with its own style.
The only good thing about afro is animation. You will sure like camera work.
Afro somewhat reminded me Black lagoon. He dodges bullets, rockets, arrows like he is god.
And sure the show offers some stylistic ‘comic book’ touches.
Unfortunately, stylistic excellence doesn’t extend to the soundtrack. Sound is generic and bland.
I didn’t like va. Monotonous voices. Hell, the worst va I’ve ever seen,
The men are ‘badass god like creatures’, the women are “decorations”, and the villains are sausages.
As for Afro, viewers need only know one thing: He is Afro version of Chuck Norris. In short, Afro is vacuous murderer and only entertaining while he’s killing people. His blind lust for revenge killed this anime.
Also that eternal poker face.
Afro samurai provides excellent visual entertainment and a dark atmosphere that countless will find transiently enjoyable. Has no story, no character development.
It’s short and won’t waste too much of your time, but don’t expect much. read more
Very stylized action sequences. Both are samurai themed. Each has a very serious samurai as well as a more laid back, energetic samurai.
Sword Fighting and plaine awsomeness
Both of these have high level samurais shed alot of blood, also the animes contain blood, violence and a sex scene.
Afro samurai is more like a mixture of samurai champloo and samurai Jack, with a darker tone. They both offer a completely different take on the samurai genre as well as the action. Afro's action is a lot more exaggerated while samurai champloo's goes for more realistic sword fights. They're Recommended to anyone looking for some great samurai action
They both have a unique hip-hop flair that, somehow, coincides with the samurai theme. They also both contain amalgamation of the past and present (like monks with rocket launchers, beat-boxing peasants). It's a weird little niche that both of these titles somehow fell into, and we haven't really seen anything like them before or after.
Nice music, nice fight scenes, similar atmosphere, but AS is obviously more EPIC
Both the shows are about samurai! But the most common and rare thing the shows have in common is their Hip-Hop inspired theme!
Both are Samurai action series. Both have a Hip Hop theme. Both have badass action scenes.
Afro Samurai has Samuel L. Jackson.
Samurai Champloo has Mugen.
surreal fighting; samurais with the unexpectable devices
Both are samurai shows that have a hip hop theme. The action scenes are good in both, but I think Samurai Champloo had a lot more comedy.
Afro Samurai and Samurai Champloo are both about rogue samurai warriors and the way they overcome any appearing problem, always with a based-on-the-tip-of-their-sword attitude. They both have a nice blend of bumpin' hip-hop tracks and samurai action that leads to a unique experience. The fight sequences are stylish and entertaining and the characters in both series are well developed and you won't forget about them the minute you start watching a new anime. If you enjoyed watching one of them then you should definitely check out the other.
Estilo veloz com espada com um clima meio que street .
If you like style, Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai are definitely two series worth mentioning when taking its action and characters. Among other factors, both series takes place in a samurai-like age where there are feuds and conflicts. From these conflicts, characters usually solves them through power and dominance.
The action in both series are solid and the main character is a skilled samurai capable of combat. They're also quite brash and often speaks out what's on their mind towards their peers.
Both series are also noticeable for their catchy soundtrack as well.
They each have the elements of hip-hop music fused in samurai themes mixed within the context of each other.
Wandering nearly unbeatable samurais looking for one man. Going through a great number of people to get to him. They both give the same feel due to the hip-hop music and the fight scenes.
Same ninja , samurai shit if u like one u will love the other one , simple
both of the animes have this "American" styl, some times same animation
Both series have some really good fighting scenes in them, which make up for the weaker story aspect. With Mugen from Samurai Champloo being the badass, rough gem of a fighter in contrast to Jin, the uniform, well practiced rounen, and from Afro Samurai you have Afro, who is the "number two" of the fighting world, who's so focused on his past that nothing else matters to him at all.
They both have samurai fighting each other. And the gore seems to be equall in both camps. Shigurui is a bit slower but it does have over 200% more episodes than Afro Samurai
Both have Samurai fights, the atmosphere is the same on some scenes, the art itself is similar.
It's got all the Breasts, Guts and Gore Afro Samurai has. That is of coarse if you can get past how revolting certain characters can be... Ok, lets be honest here, there's maybe four or five characters that retain normal human psychological behavior. Everyone in this show is screwed in the head, but at least they make for some beastly fights.
