The first similarity is that both series have trips through the galaxy.
Another point are the girls of royalty and the objectives they pose. In Starzinger is the Princess Aurora and her desire to bring peace to the galaxy, while Odin is Sara and her longing to return to their planet, containing the secrets of the universe and creation.
Sci-fi anime about traveling through space to reach a goal while battling various space monsters and bad guys.

They are both shows from the 80s with a cult following, and they're adaptations of classic stories made into sci-fi (Journey to the West & Homer's Odyssey).
Combat, Drama and Adventuring - (And your occasional share of laughs)

Starzinger and Macross shares these entertaining aspects and delivers them to you with their unique 70's and 80's charm that cannot be achieved by modern day anime, whether its in space or on solid ground :o)

Quite similar drawings, both animes have interesting fights, and both have nice princess :)
